Amazing Aircraft Photos

Hey everyone, I know you are tired of seeing my name, but don't worry, we have some great new posts on the way--so humor me in the meantime.  I found this great site by photographer Troy Pavia that features nightime shots of an airliner graveyard.  These facilities are sad, but fascinating, and I can imagine the stories these hulks of metal could tell.  In fact, I can tell some stories about some of these aircraft on the site, like the Delta TriStars and 727s that were brand new when I started my aviation career.  The bottom photo is of one of Southwest Airline's former 737-200s.  Click here to see visit the site.

Amazing is a bit of an understatement for describing Troy Pavia's photographs. I took a few minutes to peruse other areas of his website, I especially like the Urban Exploration photos.

I think aircraft graveyards are fascinating. And, I will agree with Jim...Troy is an amazing photographer.

I love how these photos are deeper than just showing what's there. The lighting seems to bring out the "life" or at least, "former-life" of these old birds. It's my own fault I personify aircraft: but these photos succeed in letting the aircraft tell their stories. Great link!

Bill, I especially like the Aviation Warehouse folder, and I used to pass by the California Airframe warehouses when I worked at Oakland with Delta. Brian

Isn't the second picture a Continental Airlines plane? I'm thinking that's their old color scheme. The pictures almost look eerie (I don't mean that in a bad way!), & they're so neat. :) When I was going to MCO last month, I changed planes in STL. While I was waiting for my flight from STL, I saw a Pan Am plane! I've obviously not seen that airline for a long time! I can't remember when they last flew. I took a picture of the plane, but it was a little far away. I can still tell what it is, though.

Leah, The second photo is of a DC-8 and Continental never flew them. I can't be for sure, but it may be an ex-Hawaiian aircraft. Blog Boy

I think you're right Joe. It's a former "lead sled" from United. Blog Boy

Ah, I see! I didn't realize Continental (which I've also flown before) didn't have DC-8s.

On the 20th of July my two children and myself flew from BWI (Baltimore) to Sky Harbor (Phoenix). This was the first time my children had flowen. Both of the being special need children I had some concerns that I had expressed prior to boarding. An attendant from Southwest made friends with my children and myself. Before I knew it we were boarding and my children were excited about their adventure. They both were taken by the pilots and was able to visit the cockpit and wear the pilots hats. Boy, they were set and so excited about their trip. My concerns had dissapeared and the entire flight was all about my children. They recieved a few small gifts from the flight crew. You would think that they had hit the lottery. I want to thank the flight crew on flight 740 20 July 2007 06:45. Our future vacation plans will include Southwest Airlines for our transpertation. Oh by the way, my daughter wants me to mention that the bathrooms on the plain were cool. Thank you for the personal touch and the care that we recieved.
