Back to Work - The Sequel

The "gift" of feedback...one of the greatest gifts someone can receive is the gift of truthful candor.  A friend of mine likes to say, "we all need 'grace and truth' but remember 'grace' comes first for a reason."  Throughout the year, I have received my share of 'undeserved favor'...that is grace, and thankfully my share of LUVing truth.  This blog has been a blessing in both of these areas.  In particular, one of the longest running threads, "Back to Work" has given our Recruiting Team real insight into the questions, hopes, and dreams of the People applying to work at Southwest Airlines.  As our small gift back to those trying to work here, our Recruiting Team will monitor this new blog thread and periodically respond directly to questions.  They will try to anticipate questions and leave a tip or two that might make the application process seem less like a process.  My thanks to all of you for giving all of us in the People Department at Southwest Airlines the gift of feedback.

Hi Carrie- Thanks! I am happy for us too! Your words are so true...never give up hope! This has been a very tough year for everyone, myself included, and what I have learned is that you just have to keep trying, never stop. Good Luck to everyone !!!!! Carrie, looking forward to meeting you on Sunday too! Which class will you be in AM or PM? I was unable to make it to the FAQ session on Tuesday..Did you go?

I have applied several times for aircraft mechanic position. I have never heard back from anyone at SWA, When I started my aviation career, SWA was one of my top that I wanted to work for! But trying to get the experience needed to be cosidered is almost impossible. Eventhough most of my experience is in regional jets and some coporate, I know I can be beneficial. Can a person like myself be desired?

Hello Everyone, This is my first time on the site and it is wonderful. I would like for someone to let me know what the hiring process is? I applied for a Management position and was called for a phone interview on a Saturday. What is the next step? I must have been qualified for the position because they at least called right?? I worked 10yrs at another airline but LUV southwest!! Thanks

I have to say it is so exciting to know that the best airlines in the WORLD!! has called me for a phone interview! I know this is only the first step but a good one. I love the fact that SW hires people with great attitudes and then trains them vs the other way around to me that is why they are so successful. I would like to understand the hiring process and how they choose the who they will call based on the resume and profile. I have worked for another airline for many years and am trying to get a position in management please let me know this is the bomb!!!!!!

Can you please tell me if the Peoples department answers the blogs? I have asked a question back in 2009 and was wondering because I never got a response. Thanks

LisaJ, The People Dept. isn't monitoring this post on a regular basis since it is over two years old, but if you report your question, I will forward it to the experts. Brian

Hey Brian, OOps! sorry I thought this was a ongoing blog. Well anyway I have a few questions and it looks like others have the same questions. 1. I had a phone interview and was wondering what the next steps were? The position is for a Supervisor at the Airport. 2. What does HR look for when selecting canidates for Management positions etc>? Thanks, Lisa J.

Hi Lisa, I have asked someone from People to respond. This is an ongoing blog, but because of its age, the comments come in batches and we may not be able to catch all of them. We do try to pass on the ones needing comments, but always feel free to remind us if no one has responded. Brian

I would think by now someone would have answered my question. I see that there are many people who have beeing trying to get a quick question answered and have yet to recieve a response. Thank you again for trying to relay the message to the Peoples Department. I have also been on other blogs and see the same thing nobody is responding to them either! Hope the site gets better and the proper department responds to people in a timely manner. I think this is important in keeping up the image as well as keeping it the best airline in 2009 to work for...Thanks Again!!!!

Hi everyone, I have been working with customers as a manager in branch banking for several years and finally decided it was time for me to make the move to my absolute passion, the Airline industry, and Southwest is where I want to be, no question. What is it on an applicant's resume that would stand out to be invited for an interview? Also, I am posting for an entry level position at the airport. How can I avoid being labeled as over qualified? Even though I have built a successful career in banking, I am thrilled to start over if it allows me to be where I want to be. Thanks! I am excited (NUTS) to be part of this blog and a future crew member in the Southwest family! Jack Wild - New Hampshire

I need help. I live in Las Vegas, NV . Recently on 09/04/10 I saw new job postins for customer service job#13438 and #13439, also for part-time ramp agent 09/22/10 job#13586, these positions were posted on state of Nevada dept of unemployment's job site, such Jobcorps and America's job exchange but when you try to apply for the Southwest careers page says it does not exist. I get immediate notification on date it's posted. But how can these agencies give this information out for us to apply if it's not available on Southwest website. I am an experience passenger/gate agent from Usairways. I have long looked to work for Southwest because of employee relations. They are the happiest around. Is there help? Is there a recruiter I can call. I know personally many employees there. I know southwest is looking for 25 agents at las.

I was lucky to find this www.blogsouthwest.com site. What a wonderful post! I am just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well - resources like this blog are very helpful. As our company is based in the United States, it's all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own natural enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in that case.
