Becoming a Flight Attendant 101

cadams
Adventurer B
Last year 7,593 applicants were interviewed for the job of Flight Attendant. From this number 880 were hired. The big question: "What are they looking for?" While serving on the Flight Attendant Hiring Team, I was looking for those who stood out from the group. Professional appearance, positive attitude, and enthusiasm. A question I asked myself was, "How will a passenger respond to this person for five hours at 35,000 feet - while strapped down in a seat?" They certainly don't want to be encapsulated with a Flight Attendant they feel is mad at them! If you feel you have what it takes to be a Flight Attendant, what's the next step?  I suggest a person research the job. Many of our applicants have read the book Nuts! written by Kevin Freiberg and Jackie Freiberg. Google "books on the life of a flight attendant" for resources. These can give you an inside look at a working Flight Attendant's job. For all the hilarity there are the sobering topics of commuting, duty hours, irregular operations, no shows, etc. Try to make sure that, before you apply, you have the attitude, flexibility, and stamina this job requires. You still want the job? Great! Go to the Careers Page of southwest.com and follow the instructions for submitting an application online. Then the wait begins. If you meet the basic criteria, you will eventually receive a letter (Flight Attendant hiring is timed with the arrival of new aircraft into the fleet) from our People Department inviting you for a Group Interview. Come prepared with the information for which you are asked, and I recommend getting there early, as there will be paperwork to fill out. Do not be late under any circumstances. If you have a conflict, call the People Department immediately. If you don't know how to get to the interview spot, drive it the day before. If you are flying in, allow enough time to get from the airport to the People Department in our Dallas Headquarters, or to the interview location.  What do you wear? Business attire is always appropriate. Wear something that makes you feel good so you will be relaxed and confident. For women, makeup is required on duty so come to the interview looking like you will if you are hired. Men are not required to buy or borrow a suit, but you want to look starched and business like. Arrive knowing why Southwest should hire you. After the Group Interview you could be asked to remain that afternoon for a one-on-one interview. You could also be scheduled another day for this in-depth interview. If the latter is the case, you will receive a letter giving you the time and date. There is no set time for when you will receive a response, but three to six weeks is a reasonable expectation.  During this second interview, you will spend time with an active duty Flight Attendant and a Company Recruiter. Come prepared with examples of when you have demonstrated being an outstanding Employee at your previous jobs, in a school environment, or times you have interacted with a group. The questions are in a format that begins, "Tell me about a time..." Relax and allow your personality to come through. If you do not get a second interview, or if you do not get hired, please understand that you can interview again in one year. We have many excellent Employees who were turned down the first time but came back and were chosen. A strong desire for the job is a plus and coming back demonstrates that desire. If you are not chosen IT DOES NOT MEAN WE DON'T LIKE YOU. It could merely mean on this given day when interviewed by a given group you were not deemed a JOB FIT. There may even be other jobs in the Company that you may want to consider and apply. I recently flew with an outstanding male Flight Attendant who moved to a city that was hiring and started out on the Ramp at an airport. He wanted to get his foot in the door and was willing to move and take whatever job was available. He enjoyed his job but his goal was to be a Flight Attendant and fly out of Dallas. It took him three years, but he did what it took to make it happen. Do you have a Warrior Spirit? Do you have a Servant's Heart? Do you have a Fun-loving Attitude? If you understand what these three things mean and want to join a team of dedicated Employees striving each day to keep Southwest Airlines successful for our Customers and Employees, please apply!

I live in Bartlesville Ok. I am very interested in becoming a flight attendant. Would I have to move to Dallas, Huston or to where ever the bases are located?

Just wondering what is the age requirement. At 48 years old, (in another 6 years), I can take a retirement package from my current job, (I'm a police officer). Looking for fun, part-time work. Like working around the public, which I've been doinf on this job for the last 23 years. Would love the chance to do this.

Having current experience a flight attendant on based on the east coast, i decided to apply with SWA in hopes that i would be eventually to be based near my home town. (Oakland Ca) not to mention working with employees that are happy and bubbly like myself seems to be a exciting difference from my current airline! I herd that if you don't hear anything 6 to 8 weeks after submitting your resume you wont hear anything back at all, is that so?

I was invited to a SW group interview for Flight Attendants in March 2005. I was one of 4 lucky people to go onto the one-on-one interview later that day. I was fingerprinted and interviewed with a Flight Attendant and Recruiter. Unfortunately, I wasn't invited for training, and I received the "Thank you for your interest" letter. The letter said that I could reapply in 6 months. So I reapplied in Sept of 2005. I never heard anything. So I reapplied in March of 2006. Still nothing. Then I reapplied in Aug 2006. Still no letter inviting me to a group interview. Not wanting to give up, I reapplied in February of this year. I am hopefull that I will receive a letter inviting me to a group interview. I wouldn't normally be this persistent, but I very much want to be part of the Southwest family. Any advice on how I can go to another group interview?

I was encouraged by my children to follow my life long dream, (since I'm constantly reminding them to do the same). Well folks, after submitting my resume on line in August 2006 and then again in January 2007, I was invited to fly down to Dallas for a Group Interview Session next Saturday, June 23!!!! I'm still in shock! I'm just so thrilled to even be invited! I just read a book "The Essential Guide To Becoming A Flight Attendant" by Kiki Ward, and I just ordered "Nuts!" by Kevin Freiberg. When I called SWA to confirm I received my invitation and that I would be there with bells on, I was told to expect to be there all day? ANY ADVISE PEOPLE?

PS - James Malone , you gave me some encouraging words several months back that I wasn't "too old" and to pursue my dream, so I applied thanks to you! I'm excited just to be invited to fly down to Dallas for a Group Interview and get that far! But thanks again! Any last minute advise?

Hi Valerie!! I will be looking for you then! It would be great to kinda already 'know' someone! lol Where are you from? Sandy

I'm from the Dallas area. My youngest, of four daughters, just graduated from high school, so I'm finally able to do what I have always wanted to do! My dad was a pilot and my brother is currently a pilot. From what I here we are sooooo lucky to get an interview with Southwest. They are the best! I, like you, also read the book by Kiki Ward, and the book Nuts is supposed to come in the mail today. Where are you from? Valerie

Outside of Ada, Oklahoma, straight up I-35 about 2 1/2 hours from Dallas. My kids are all out and doing their own thing, and my husband got his 'dream' job as an instructor with the Oklahoma police academy. Now it's my turn to follow my life long dream! The book by Kiki Ward had so many great pointers and I've just started "Nuts", which is really interesting reading! Hey, don't know if it's allowed on this blog, but if it is, my email is k9oden@aol.com. Sandy 🙂

I got my rejection letter from swa today. i guess if you aren't one of the lucky ones to be held back for a one on one, you basically won't get hired. i'll try again. i was surprised cause i flew for a major airline for 10 years. i'm 35, maybe that's too old??

Hello! I would really like to become a FA for Southwest, I do have some questions that I can't seem to find answers for anywhere on the web. I tried the wannabee site and it won't let me in. I would like to know if flight attendants get paid during initial training. The swa website says no, but a friend of mine said that it has changed and they do pay now. I would also like to know what the guarantee is per month? I know I have a lot of questions I just basically need to know if I can afford my dream job. Thank you for taking the time to tell us what it is like to be SWA flight attendant! It sounds like the best job in the world. Kristy

I went to the Group Interview in June. I was one of three people picked for the one on ones (I also made it to the one on ones two years ago when I applied) I felt I had a GREAT interview. Unfortunately, they didn't see it that way, and I got my rejection letter 10 days later. (I think Leah might know how I feel here) For Kristy....I think you should go to a Group Interview, because they give you such great information there about pay, etc. There were lots of ways to make extra money (ie picking up extra trips in the beginning of the month, passenger loads, working as the "lead" flight attendant (I can't remember what terminology they used). I also talked to a former swa f/a, and he made 40,000 in his first year and still had a lot of time off. I believe they also said that you'd get $1,000 for training, but it came at the end of training (not exactly sure about the amount) but if you go to the GI,they cover so much information, and more! For the "recovering fa" I am shocked you didn't make it to the one on ones.I would think that the experience would be a plus. And 35 isn't too old! One of the people picked in my group to go on to the one on ones was in her 50's. I do have a tip for people going to the group interview.....Both times I applied I went to Oakland, Ca, so this may just be an "Oakland thing" But.....BOTH TIMES that I went, I noticed that the people being selected for the one on ones (myself included) were wearing business suits! Either a matching skirt/blazer or matching pantsuit or for the guys, a suit. It may have been just the times that I went, but I couldn't help but notice both times, those people wearing business attire were chosen. (just a helpful tip for those of you going)

Kris I went to my group interview the first week of June in Oakland and yes that is where you will get alot of good information. If you have not applied yet for the invite do so asap. It took me about 4-5 mos. to hear back and get the invite letter. They told us that at the end of training we get a $1000.00 bonus. There was no mention of any pay other than that as I recall. I was lucky enough to get into the 1 on 1's and was called about 9 days later letting me know I was selected to go to training pending my background check etc. It has been exactly one month since my interview and I am now in lurker land! I have not heard anything so I don't know if I am in the class pool or what. I too am unable to get on the swa chat board so far. Good luck and as far as being able to afford your dream job I would say that you can't afford NOT to have your dream job!! Go for it. The investment in time and money will be worth it! Last of all, 35 is not too old! I think I may be the "50 something" interviewee that Kim mentioned in her letter above. Actually I am 49 and holding! Be yourself in the interview. It was my first job interview in almost 23 years for my "dream job" and I did'nt go on the web or try to overprepare. I was just hoping they would like me and my job experience and luckily they did. Be prepared to talk about your positive attributes, good experiences as well as the challenging ones in the workday world. Best of Luck Steph

Sorry about the age mix up Stephanie! (for everyone who hasn't seen her, she looks great!) Congratulations on getting invited to training. I'm sure it just takes a long time for the background check to get processed. I'm sure you'll be in the pool soon. Kim M

Kim is that you??? I was thinking it could be you when I read the post above but I was hoping it was not . I have heard that Oakland had other interview sessions last month so I was hoping it was a different Kim. I am so sorry it did'nt work out this time. I am really surprised because you did a beautiful job in the GI. So poised and professional and intelligent. And you looked great too! I am disappointed we won't be in the same pool this time around but I think you should try again. Thanks for the kind words about the wait I am going through and for the nice compliment you gave me. ( And I did'nt mind being considered in my 50's because I almost am!!!LOL!!! You had it right!!!) I am going to watch for your posts and wait to hear when you make it in the pool! Bye for now! Steph

Explorer C
Yes, I am going to try again in a year (well, 11 months now, but who's counting?) Thanks for all the kind words. I was disappointed I didn't make it, but I'll see what I can do to improve my interview skills, and try again. If you have the time, could you please let us know when you get the "official" phone call/email saying you are in the pool? I'm excited for you! Best of luck in your new career. Kim M
Steph2

Kim I have heard some of the chatters say they applied again in 6 months and by the time another 6 months went by they were called again. Thus making their wait closer to one year instead of a year or more? Maybe you could try that to expedite the process? I will watch for you and I will post as soon as I get the ok that I am actually going to training. Everyone says no news is good news in the case of a background check. I have heard it could take weeks and weeks to months. Patience is the word of the day! Talk to you soon! I will keep an eye out for your posts! Take care! Steph

It has been almost 3 weeks since I has the one on one.....is that a good sign?

Hi Todd, My name is Steph and I posted above. I had my 1 on 1's in Oak. a month ago and got the call back 9 days later that I would go through the background check before being invited to class. Did you get a phone call or email back after your interview telling you that you were selected? I have not heard anything at all, no emails, phonecalls, letters, nothing since then from anyone. I finally called the People Dept. in Oakland yesterday to ask my status but the Employment Coordinator did'nt have any information for me and did'nt seem to recognize my name or anything. I had to tell her what job I had been applying for etc. She mentioned the possibly that it takes alot of time to verify school this time of year. She did'nt have much more to say than that. I asked her if I would be notified that my background was done like most of the other folks who are on the chat board and she said yes. I read one persons post yesterday that he waited 8 weeks to hear he was in the pool. That made me feel a little better.Tell me your story Todd. Are you in the same situation as me? A "Lurker"? Have you called to check your status? If so, what did you hear? Fellow Lurker Steph
Todd7
Explorer C
Steph, Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I interviewed in OAK. I have not called but would hope I would of heard by now if I was NOT selected for the one on one.....Last time I interviewed with WN for another position, I got a rejection letter a week later which kind of make me believe that I have made it to the background check but I do not want to get my hopes up. From reading another post it seems as if one did not even get told they made it past the one on one and the background was being conduted....So, I dont know, kind of hope that I made it passed the one on one....Anyone else know??
Steph2
Explorer A
So Todd let me get this straight, you had your 1 on 1 but have not got a congrats call or email telling you that your next step in to do the background etc? If this is the case I personally would go back through all my voicemails, emails etc. to make sure I did'nt miss anything. Check caller ID on your home phone. Then if there is nothing there I would call the People Dept. in Oakland and speak with the Employment Coordinator about your status. It is possible they are backed up and she just has not had time to call! I have heard that Oak. did alot of interviewing last month. I finally called yesterday and I felt so bad to be bothering her because I could tell she was very busy ( and it turned out she had no news for me so I bothered her for nothing). But she is very nice and professional and maybe you will feel better after you check with her. Good luck and let us know here when you find something out. Your other option is to wait another week! I know, it is nervewracking! Regards, Steph
Todd7
Explorer C
Steph, Thanks...I am thiking of calling here tomorrow if I don't get a letter today, I been kind of hesitant in calling because I don't want to be a bother or sound pushy. I am being patient as I can right now...lol Did you say you are in the pool or not?
Steph2
Explorer A
Todd, I know, I felt sort of weird when I called too and lo and behold there was no news for me! And I am NOT in the pool officially! That is why I called to see if my background is done. I don't know why it is taking longer than 2-3 weeks! Anyway I am a "lurker" or a "peep" as I have heard the terms used on the swa chat board. Those words have been used to describe those of us that are in limbo. Still in the paperwork and no class invite! Maybe you and I will be in the same pool? So lets compare notes. My GI and 1 on 1 was June 7th, I got a Congrats call the 16th of June. When was GI and 1 on 1? And did you know they are filling another class for Aug. 20th? That must be class 236. I was hoping to go to that one! Oh well... Let me know what your dates were. Also last night the SWA.flightattendants.org board was completely shut down. Have you gone there for info previously? It is a good place to read posts from actual employees and future employees. Hopefully it will be back up soon. Well let me know your date info. We may end up in the same class. Good Luck Steph

I called them today and my regret letter was sent out. sucks to be me and I don't think I will be trying again, sick of the rejection to be honest. Good luck to all who apply; maybe someone will get hired on.
Steph2

Todd I am so sorry! I hope you feel differently after the initial sting fades. At the beginning of this blog it says over 7,500 something people apply for these jobs in just one year and less than 900 are hired. I firmly believe that in that 7500 there are plenty of good people that deserve hiring but SWA just can't hire them all! Give yourself another shot. I wish you all the best and if I actually make it through all the stages I hope to hear you on the board again. Take Care, Steph

I'm so sorry Todd! Don't give up! I firmly believe that there are fewer jobs than qualified people so maybe next time will be your time! Best Wishes! Steph

Steph, I am in limbo also. I had my GI and 1 on 1's in dallas on June 23. I got an email saying my interviews were successful and was now ready for the background check on June 26. I got a call from the company conducting the background check needing a letter of reference. I sent it to them and made sure they received it. I am still waiting like you. One of my friends in my GI already got the email saying she passed the interview and background check. I think they must be swamped in HR. I feel sure I passed my background check.....my husband says there is no way I didn't pass. maybe they have stacks and stacks of paperwork to process. I am 50 and so excited for a new and exciting career!! Keep me posted! I am a in lurker land too!!! glo

Hey Glo, Hi there! my GI and 1 on 1 was June 7th. I got a congrats call ( no email or letter) on June 16. Since then I have heard nothing! Nothing from First Advantage or SW! Finally I called last week to ask my status. The Employment Coordinator mentioned something about verifying diplomas and education taking longer this time of year. So as far as I know I am still in limbo. I asked if I would be informed when I was officially in the pool and she said yes. But I have heard of other folks on the chat board who never were notified, just got the class invites. I don't know what part of the country they were hired in so they may do it differently in different regions? But I am going on what the Coordinator in Oakland, Ca told me. I guess that means I am waiting for a call or email! Hey I am 49 (50 in Feb.) and I am really excited about this new career too! I'm glad you posted to me. I look forward to hearing more about your experience and maybe we will be classmates! Sorry if I repeated parts of my posts above but not sure if you read back that far! Stay in touch! Steph

I can see from everyone's enthusiasm and passion that some of you have wanted to become a flight attendant for a very long time -- some since elementary school; some just call it a dream job. And many kudos to those who try and try again -- persevering to win the coveted opportunity. I'm wondering if any of you can answer the "why" question -- why is it so alluring? I know that I find the travel and the variety extremely appealing, but do any of you long to see specific sights? Or just travel in general? Can any of you remember your first flight? Did that have an impact? Did you have a specific incident or a relative that inspired you? Maybe it was a friend or a poster? Type freely!
Steph2
Explorer A
Thank You BK for the invitation to type freely! I was a little afraid to use this blog in too personal of a way but I would love to answer the question of why I would like to be a flight attendant for Southwest! That question was asked at my GI and 1 on 1 but I don't think I answered as articulately as I could have due to a bit of nervousness! I would love the chance to address it further. For me it goes like this. I am a people person. I always have been. I get great happiness from making other people feel happy. I don't know why! It is such a simple and basic thing! My co-workers even tease me about it! Fondly of course! I have built my whole career on that one thing! My present job consists of performing customer service and relations everyday on all levels. From actual physical assistance of people, to answering questions, to solving problems they have involving money transactions or locating hard to find items in the retail setting. My job is to make customers feel welcome, attended to and satisfied when they walk out the door of my present company. I love the satisfaction I get from their smiling faces when they leave and I have helped them with any special requests they may have had. It is what has kept me working with the public at the same company for 22 1/2 years. I even turned down several promotion opportunities to stay with the public!!! The fact that my customers sometimes say so sincerely to me, "You are so nice and helpful! Thank You! Why can't more employees be as friendly as you!" Or one of my favorites, "You helped me solve this problem (locate item/ whatever) in less than 5 minutes and you are the 3rd person I have spoken too! I knew if I came to you that you would help me!" Sometimes they just give me that big happy smile! And working with the public means every day is different and exciting! There are new faces, new problems to solve, new smiles to see!!! I LOVE it!!! Those rewards may be trivial or unimportant to some, but to me they mean alot. I feel very lucky to be a people person because I feel it is a blessing to enjoy my fellow human so much! And I know that the fact is that there are many, many people who do not have the patience or personality to be around the public everyday and do what I do. I also enjoy very much my numerous fellow employees. The more the merrier! This begs the question of do I ever get frustrated and tired? Well of course!! I am human after all but to be an expert in customer service is to never let your smile slip and never lose that sense of professionalism. I may not be a surgeon or a bank president but there are lots of surgeons and CEO's who could never do what I do! I am sure of that! Flying for Southwest will be taking my skills to the next level in my skill set. Of course I started out as a teenager having all the usual attractions to this job that everyone else has! Who would'nt want to be young, attractive, footloose and fancyfree flying all over the place and meeting all kinds of fun people??!!!Those are the images of FA's that are in our minds from past decades. And they are good images because they opened the world of travel to everyone and made everyone want to GO GO GO! Well I myself am a bit older and more mature now! I actually know now a little of what these dedicated professionals actually do and it is hard work requiring extreme physical stamina, patience, mental flexability, and love ot your fellow man! I think it takes a sense of seriousness about the rules and regs of being in the air and taking every passengers personal safety very seriously. In short it is very similar to my job now but it is taking it to the next level, the air! There are going to be new skills to aquire!! I am so excited to expand my horizon this way. I am ready for a new challenge and to learn new things in this phase of my life, a phase that utilizes my people skills in an important way. Making people comfortable, safe and carefree while way up in the air is that next level. Getting passengers safely and happily to their vacations, business obligations and family/social events is what modern air travel is all about and I want to be a part of it! In closing, I considered going to nursing school or possibly becoming a police officer. Those would be other ways I could expand my skills and talents but flying for SWA is my first choice of course!! My personal motto is to do your best, aim high, and fly high! So here I am at age 49, ready to take off and do the things I do best for this historically great Airline! So BK, thats my answer to your question of why I want to be a part of the Southwest family! I've received my congrats call, now I am waiting to hear my paperwork is processed and I am GOOD TO GO! To all of you who read this, thank you for taking the time, and hope it was'nt too long... Stephanie.....You GO girl! As I told you in our GI, I did the same thing as you for about 13 years. I admire your enthusiasm, and customer service attitude! It is very challenging to maintain the positive attitude that you have working in the retail environment, and you do it with ease! Just from reading your post, I would have picked you for the f/a job. I am going to use your above post for inspiration for my next swa interview, and hopefully I'll get the job this time! Keep up the good work Kim M

Kim I take your remarks as a true compliment and they mean alot to me. One reason that they do is because you did such an awesome job in our Group Interview and you were so poised and articulate in the personal intro phase of our GI. This is coming right back at you my friend, you can take whatever inspiration you want from my post above, I'm flattered, but don't you forget you have what it takes and don't you give up. I don't know why or what exactly the reason is that you did'nt get it this time but I think you can and you will next time around. You have what it takes too! Kim, I know I am lucky to get this far in the process and I'm grateful for it, but all I can say is you stay on task and keep flying high! I want to see you posting here in 6 mos. that you are back for a GI and I know you are going to do just fine. PS Thanks for reading that long thing above LOL! I was just typing away in that little box and I had no idea how long it was till it posted. I was horrified and embarrassed! Frankly still am! There is a huge paragraph structure error right in the middle! LOL! I'm waiting for one of the SW moderators to email me and say that I have used my blog allotment on this site for a year! Enough already!! Best Regards, Steph

Stephanie, I dont' think your blog was too long. You had a lot of good information in there! It made me miss being in the retail environment. Seriously!!!! I had fun there because of all the things you mentioned. Being in healthcare now, it's very different. I pretty much have to be "serious" all the time. Helpful but serious. And I will try again, but I am going to change things around a bit because of YOU!!!! I looked on the swa website and saw that they're not hiring f/a's currently, so I'll keep checking and I'll apply again in 6 or 8 months if they're hiring. Steph, I know you are going to make a FABLOUS flight attendant!!! I would love to be a passenger on one of your flights! Kim M

Hi Everyone, Steph here. You know I got to thinking, an internet essay like the one I indulged myself in above is'nt worth the air it is typed into if it does'nt make it's main point. All that emotion and excitement above and I forgot something so important! This has been bugging me all day. I explained at length why I would be a good fit for the job at Southwest but I forgot to mention what working at Southwest would mean to me personally. I need to explain that Southwest is my first choice in this career move because it is a wonderful company that only hires the best people, who continues to maintain high standards in service and employee quality when alot of other companies are making sacrifices in those areas for profits. In one of the toughest economic atmosperes for airlines in years they still care about their employees and their customers and they hold the line. That is really why I want to be at Southwest. What an honor to work for a company that good! what an opportunity. They are rare these days you know? OK thats it i promise! In a southwest "Nutshell"! Steph

Hello! I had my GI & One on One on June 27th. By reading some of these comments I see that many of the people who had a successful interview were notified within 3-9 days. I am sitting on pins and needles here. I have been trying to practice patience, but I believe the stress is truly begining to kill me. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been notified with any good news this far down the line. I'd really, really like to know... infact I NEED to know. To all that made it CONGRATS!! To those who didn't, just remember... everything happens for a reason! THANKS

Steph, Thanks for the words of encouragement but I dont think I will be EVER applying with Southwest again, I am just too good for this company and they as a company do not know what a good employee they passed up, In the last 11 years working, I have called in sick 7 times, tardy a total of 30 mins in that time span and always willing to go above and behond what I am asked for. Maybe it's be being cocky but until a company puts me in my place and proves me wrong, I know that if anyone turns me down is making a great mistake. The timing couldnt have come at the worst time in my life also; I almost lost my dad this past Thursday in a near tragic car wreak. I wont go into deals to how bad of a year this has been for me but nothing can seem to go right. I really wanted this job but I am not willing to wait a year to try again, I am 30 and need a career but I can't keep on taking rejection that I been getting the past 5 years. Maybe I will just go with plan A and become a police officer..

For AB, Glo and Todd, Since I have a tendency to post long I will try to address the last 3 posts to me at one time. And impress the Grand Wizard behind the curtain ( Brian that would be you!) that I can keep it short and sweet. AB, I think I have heard that one person waited as long as a month to get a congrats email. Read the posts at swa.flightattendants.org and you might feel more encouraged and good luck! Keep us informed on your results. Glo, yes I am officially in the pool.Yeah! I called First Advantage and my packet had been sent back to SW June 21. I think some of my files had to be EXCAVATED since I had been to school so long ago LOL!! Anyway it got done and no one has tried to mount me in a museum or anything yet! I'm waiting for a training date. Wheeeee.. Todd I am just so sorry that things seem to be on the downs lately. Having been in your shoes ( and I am serious) where everything seems to go against your best efforts I really want you to remember one thing. You have your whole life ahead of you and figure this thing out. If it is SW Airlines or being a Police Officer or whatever, YOU get to make the call. Just sit down and really think about it and see what you really want to do and go for it. Ask a couple of trusted people who know you well to mentor you on your decision. Ask them how they picture you! Insist on the truth! Keep your mind open! They may see you as a chef! Then when you have decided what is best for you don't let anybody stop you! I wish you lots of luck and don't let the frustration get you! All of life is a learning experience, the good and the bad, believe me! steph

Thank you all for your interest in becoming a Flight Attendant for Southwest Airlines! My name is Shari Perez and I am the Employment Manager over the Flight Attendant hiring process. Hopefully I will be answering a few of the great questions I see out here on the blog. Although our web site at southwest.com states that we are not taking resumes at this time, we are continually hiring the best Flight Attendants in the industry. We are just lucky enough to have lots and lots of resumes right now that we want to work through. As many of you know, the first step in the interview process is the Group Information Session, and then you could be asked to attend a one on one interview. If you successfully complete those steps, you would then be sent for a complete background check, drug screen and fingerprint process (not necessarily in that order). The timeframe for all of these may vary, depending on the volume of Candidates we are working with Ã
