Could YOU be a Galley Gourmet?

Traveling around the country at all times of the day, it can be very hard to eat nutritiously. Most Flight Attendants have become very adept at dragging along a "food bag" with our other items. In my "food bag," I usually carry cut up carrots, celery sticks, and some sort of fruit--usually an apple or orange.  If I know that my food selection will be limited - we all know some airports have better food selections than others - I'll also cook up some hamburger patties or chicken breasts and throw them in a Ziplock bag before I leave for my trip.  Then when I'm on the plane, all I have to do is run some hot water over the bag to warm them up.  The same technique will work for spaghetti or any other type of pasta. Many Flight Attendants have taken to ordering from NutriSystems because they have a great selection and are easy to warm up on the plane by just adding hot water.  But, I've seen Flight Attendants bring everything from Chicken and Dumplings to Lobster onboard.  Do you have any "on the go" meal ideas that we might be able to use on the plane?  Any other good snack foods that would be good to bring along on a trip?

I wonder who is going to be the first to mention candy corn? I would think Cup o Noodles would be a good choice. While not exactly healthy due to all the salt, it certainly got me through my freshman year of college at San Diego State.

I think it was Ramon Noodles that got my daughter through. Hey, how do you keep you food cold?

I think Marcus was the first to mention candy corn. Amazing what a cult CC has become here on this blog. For the record, I cannot stand the stuff. And I was expecting something - anything - here yesterday in honor of April Fools Day. I remember the heart candy on Valentine's Day, was prepared to see candy corn.

This gives me some ideas for when I become an FA (whenever that happens to be!:) ) I LUV fruit & vegetables, as well as some of the other food you mentioned. Another thing I eat is Yoplait yogurt; I eat it everyday. That might be another suggestion. What about salad? I'd, of course, put dressing on the side. You could put fruit or chicken in the salad, maybe.

I think peeps are better than candy corn. You should take those on the plane with you. Peeps are very nutritious and delicious!!! 8) -Trojan Blog Boy

So I was complaining one morning on the hotel van how the evening before I had tried to press my uniform and found yellow goop all over the iron in my hotel room. One of the Flight Attendants said that someone must have made ironing board quesadillas!!! What is that I asked, and found out that if you pack pre-cooked chicken or beef along with tortillas, cheese and some peppers, fold everything between pieces of aluminum foil and heat it with an iron you have a wonderful snack!!! Amazing, and very innovative!!

Phil, I salute those peeps researchers; they clearly are taking science to new frontiers. Blog Boy

Brian, Yes, they certainly are. Maybe not quite the Final Frontier, but close. Thankfully, scientists have also researched the strangely eternal Twinkie.

Brian, Unfortunately (?) I don't think our scientist friends have tested the blog favorite, Candy Corn. I haven't found experiments involving the delectable little treats....yet.....

Peeps are the greatest candy ever made. Yesterday I ate peeps for breakfast lunch and dinner. My favorite peep is the one shaped like an easter bunny. It's too bad they don't sell them year round. If they did, I would probably only eat peeps and nothing else... 8) Trojan Blog Boy

Well, this may seem nutty of me to derail such a lively discussion about peeps, but, I've got news to reveal that may warm the hearts of many of my fellow Southwest Customers (and make their tummies happy)... http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/industries/airlines/stories/041007dnbussouthwest.1dc3acf.html Now, I wonder how many folks will postpone their 2008 vacations just so they can fly even MORE in 2009 and load up on those sweet morsels? James, delighted to read your comments! My wife and I are both Flight Attendants and we each use CrewColdStorage.com foodbags. We've enjoyed them for two years and not only does the bag's features allow us to take great food with us on the aircraft, but if we have a BUR layover on a Friday night, we shop at the Farmers Market the next morning and bring all those fresh fruits and veggies back home to MDW in the same foodbag!!!
