Express Bag Drop Launches Today at Dallas Love Field

Beginning today, Dallas Love Field (DAL) will become Southwest’s eighth city with Express Bag Drop.  Joining Oakland, Denver, Phoenix, Chicago Midway, Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall, Orlando, and Los Angeles, DAL Customers who already have a boarding pass and need to simply check luggage will be able to bypass lines at the ticket counter and Self-Service Kiosks by using the Express Bag Kiosk.

“Southwest is always looking to improve the airport experience for our Customers,” said Senior Vice President Customer Services Teresa Laraba. “And, Customer feedback regarding Express Bag Drop has been positive, and our metrics show that Express Bag Drop shortens the baggage check in process by roughly 45 seconds which saves our Customers valuable time.”

Not familiar with how Express Bag Drop works?  It’s simple!  When a Customer arrives at the airport already checked in for their flight and with boarding pass in hand, a Southwest Lobby Coordinator will direct them to the Express Bag Kiosks.  These special kiosks are equipped with a scanner that will read the Customer's boarding pass and print out a luggage tag.  The Customer Service Agent assigned to the Express Bag Kiosks will complete the transaction by attaching the tag and checking the luggage. Also note, that the Express Bag Drop area also will have signage letting Customers know they are at an Express Bag Drop kiosk.

In addition to DAL, Express Bag Drop will also roll out in Tampa, Nashville, Houston, and San Diego in January and early February.  Stay tuned here to Nuts About Southwest for more details.  Also, follow us on twitter (@southwestair) and Facebook for instant notifications.

Having used something similar to this process in Iceland and Sweden, I'm glad to see that SW is adding them! They can be a great timesaver if all you need to do is check your bag in!

Please make these areas more visable inside the airport. I live in PHX and fly you all the time and had no idea I could do this. I'm excited!

We have this "service" in Chicago and it's awful. It actually takes less time to lie and say that you didn't print your boarding pass at home than to be forced to stand in the line with all of the people who are just dropping off their bags.

Nice, you guys are always innovating the process. I see all the other guys do is create NEW FEES for this or that. Keep it going SWA!

I hope that when you re-roll the service out at HOU it will go much better than the first time around there. Half the time that line wasn't even open, and there were other times where we would be pulled out of line to the other kiosks because the agents got tied up assisting customers who had other issues. I would recommend that agents working these kiosks not let themselves get tied up with customer issues and just tag bags. If a customer has an issue that needs agent involvement, please take them over to a full service station and allow customers just checking bags access to the kiosk so that it is truly an express service.

Was excited about this new feature in Oakland. My wife and I arrived, and were directed to the end of the line.....a very, very, very, very, very, long line. Had we gone to the counter (as one line jumper that got tossed after a few minutes did), we would have spent less time waiting in line. Not very "express." The line manager however, did a great job, but, this did not work out nearly as I had expected. Good thing I gave myself two hours.

I love SW, and excited to see new things, but did I really read it shortens the check in by 45 SECONDS ?! To me I don't see the big deal, then (but of course I haven't used it yet)

This is so great! Southwest is the best brand in all of America! I'd REALLY LOVE to see this in Detroit very soon. Thank you!

Yeah, I though Las Vegas was a huge city for Southwest. Why can't passengers tag their own bags? Are there actually regulations that say it must be done by agent? Wouldn't self tagging save more time?

2 thumbs up for the innovation SWA shows. 2 million thumbs up to the SWA pilot who showed compassion to the poor Grandfather who was caught in long LAX security lines trying to make it home to be there before they took his 2 year old grandson off life support last week. Arriving at LAX 2 hours ahead of flight time, as he was supposed to, he'd have missed the flight had the pilot not held the plane for that man. 20 million thumbs down to the sheep-thinking idiots at check in who refused to escort this man to the head of the line. Training needed for the ticket people, the TSA who refused to help this poor fellow.

WOW!! This is so AWESOME! I fly all the time and it seems as it TSA is determined to slow down the travel process. But SouthWest allowing us to check our bags FREE and quickly is just an AMAZING idea. SouthWest - this is why you are the industry leader and the ONLY airline I fly!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
