Fare War!

Dallas is already starting to reap the rewards of removing the Wright Amendment restrictions on Love Field. Competition is a beautiful thing...

Yeah, you really can't beat $79 one way tickets from San Diego to Dallas (not that I really want to leave SD). I have a good friend who lives in Dallas so I may just be spending some extra time at his house from now on. I don't mind having to make a 25 mins stop in ELP or ABQ when I get low fares and great customer service with WN.

When will you at least add two stop destinations to DAL from places like BOI and BUF or add one stop flights?

I think it's great that we can fly out of Love Field and for such affordable fares. But Las Vegas and Chicago were already easy and fairly cheap to get to. When is Southwest going to offer some flights from Love to some other major cities. What about Denver and Omaha?

I was so excited to see that Love Field was going to offer interstate flights. I think they even announced a huge list of cities they would go to. Now that they are actually doing it, they have just started to go to major cities like Las Vegas and Chicago. Those were already easy and fairly affordable places to fly to. When is Southwest going to add the other cities they promissed to Love Field? What about Denver and Omaha?

Tracie, we do have service between both Denver and Omaha. John, even though Dallas is one of our original three cities, it is essentially a new city with the passage of the Wright Reform Act. We will add additional destinations as we move along, much like we do with any new city. The schedules we have right now are basically the ones that were written under the Wright Amendment rules. Going forward, we will be able to write our schedules to take advantage of the new law, and this will start with the March schedule that should be released sometime later this month. To be honest, I don't know if includes service to new destinations, but we will be growing here in Dallas. Brian

Angela, For many of us travelers (not to mention you Employees), we've been holding our breath waiting for this. (and still not completely exhaling for another eight years) We knew it would happen, your management has publicly said it was going to happen, and now it has happened. It is a distinct pleasure to see it happen and to witness the free enterprise system not only alive, but well and thriving in Big D! As a Customer and a shareholder, I'm proud of my hometown airline and how well you've treated us! Thanks for being so "Southwest"! Kim 🙂

Please start posting fares from Dallas to Boston (via Manchester and Providence) as it is aggrivating to have to purchase a ticket to Baltimore and then one from there on to the Boston area. The connections are already there as I use them all the time! But hey, I don't mind getting the EXTRA rapid reward credits for the last leg of my jouney!!!!!!! Maybe you don't need to post those fares!!!!

Get price from SMF to DAL, can we trim the eastbound time down from 7 hours and 40 minutes though. Be open to connecting 2 stops that run through PHX, ALB, or ELP that may take less time. Thanks.

In expanding from DAL to points east, why not create flights through JAN or BHM and kill two birds with one stone? How can there be enough traffic to warrant flights from BHM to Louisville but not Dallas or from JAN to HOU but not DAL?

Roy, It is always great to suggest potential new routes, but I think that folks in the airline industry, especially pilots, who are always concerned about the ingestion of, and damage caused by "foreign objects" (FOD) sucked into the engines, the imagery of 'killing two birds' is not a positive thought! LOL Kim 🙂

A fare war? Wow, competition really does work. P.T. Barnum was so right when he revealed how often fools are born in this country. For years, the great unwashed got soaked by believing every word of support for the Wright Amendment. What's really astonishing is that DFW Airport didn't close when Southwest took their first post-Wright Amendment passenger to Las Vegas from Love. Wasn't that the mantra all along? Protecting Amer...whoops, I mean DFW.

OK, enough about Dallas today. I have asked for this before. ---> Southwest needs to start an LAX-ISP nonstop flight. No competition and they would make $$$ (alot of $$$ off that route). The majority of passengers on the AA, DL, UA nonstops out of JFK are from Long Island. I personally have to go east of ISP when I go to long island to visit family (often) and it is a real drag to fly into kennedy and rent car there where it is more expensive than ISP. ISP is just so much easier. The southwest connections or direct flights aren't bad, but I think there is opportunity here. I hope some of you southwest employees see this, stratch your head, go yeah that is a good idea, and pipe it up the food chain! Thanks for letting me speak! Tommy Blog

We must not rest on our laurels! While it's great that DAL can now be reached from more of WN's cities, it's time for the Wright Amendment to be FULLY done away with. NONSTOPS to/from DAL from ANY city in the USA NOW, not years down the road.

You ought to email Tommy Blog and let him know it is rather easy to fly LAX-ISP with 1 single connection in LAS. I don't know the flight number for LAX-LAS (and too lazy to look it up) but Flight 1470 is the first scheduled LAS-ISP flight of the day. I took that flight last month from SAN and it worked out fine. From the time I got off the plane until I reached the outside curb was about 90 seconds. That doesn't happen at many other airports.

For Northern Californians you have two great one-stops (one direct, one connecting) from Oakland to Dallas in the four hours plus mark. How about one of those for Sacramento to Dallas. Thanks.

Great to hear about the progress you've made at Love; I was rooting (and signing petitions) for you! Hopefully, this will lead to more expansion to new markets. This past year, I traveled on Southwest for business over 40 times, mostly to the Southeast U.S. I usually fly to RDU, BHM, JAX or MCO out of BWI. The one geographic void I would like to see served in this market area is Columbia, SC (CAE). It is the South Carolina capitol, has a large university (USC) & is a transportation hub which efficiently serves a large geographic area. Please consider CAE when expansion plans are considered. Keep up the good work!

How about Luv to GSO..We need you in Greensboro.. There are alot of people from Greensboro who drive to RDU.......Would have very full planes out of GSO..no other low cost competition Any Greensboro expansion ideas? John

Are you planning on ever offering a direct Denver to Omaha route by chance? The Frontier & United flights on this route are both terribly expensive and typically always full, especially for a flight that's roughly an hour long. You're already flying in and out of both Denver & Omaha so I'm hoping you can connect the two soon. Thanks, Greg

I am with Greg. Going back and forth between Omaha and Denver is very expensive with either Frontier and United, to the point I drive about half the time. The flights are always jam packed, no matter what time you fly. Do you have plans to open flights between Omaha and Denver?

My sister and I want to fly from Islip to Phoenix around October 13, 2007. We plan to rent a car, travel to Sedona and the Grand Canyon, then wind up in Las Vegas for a few days. We want to fly back to Islip from Las Vegas. Southwest seems to have the best fares, but they are only booking through August, 2007. Can someone tell me how to determine a price and possible booking information for our trip?

I agree with one of the other people in this blog re: Columbia, SC. A few years ago, Independance Air flew out of this airport and offered low fares to many of the destinations Southwest does. Since that airline went bankrupt, there hasn't been another airline that took its place. It was nice having an airline that offered quality service at a great price. As my family and I travel often to the South Carolina area, it would be great to see Southwest adopt CAE as one of its destinations. This airport is such a nice airport....small, modern, friendly....Southwest would be a perfect fit. Plus, there's a big gap in the area Southwest covers once you get to the Carolinas to Florida. Sure, they offer service at Raleigh/Durham and Jacksonville, but nothing in between. That's about a 500 mile gap. Just take a look at their coverage map: http://southwest.com/travel_center/routemap.html Southwest....if you're listening....PLEASE consider Columbia, SC (CAE) as one of your next airport destinations. Thanks!!!!!

I hope that Southwest eventually chooses Columbia SC (CAE) as a destination. I moved from Raleigh to Columbia a few year ago and miss LUV's service. Strangely, the closest city to Columbia with Southwest service is still Raleigh, about a 3 hour drive away. Most of South Carolina's population of over 4 million is an hour and a half's drive from CAE, and that excludes Augusta (an hour) and Charlotte (1.5 hrs)! And living here, I know there is a pent up demand for more reasonable flights. Thanks!

Does SW have a time schedule on when they will do Omaha/Denver direct? I hate flying United and Frontier and it's time for SW to break that market.

Please -- add an omaha/denver flight. I do this every two weeks -- and Southwest would be a great addition. Flights are always full.

I agree with earlier posters (although much earlier). Please, please, please Southwest, fly into CAE.... Even Greenville would be ok. We'd drive. I grew up in Nashville, and have flown Southwest since I was young. I miss flying them -- to the point that I have driven back to Nashville to fly Southwest (rather than fly anybody out of CLT). Please look at the hole in your coverage map! Millions of potentially loyal customers await!
