Fee Court is Now in Session

We are very proud of the fact that fees don't fly at Southwest Airlines, and we stand alone among our competitors in the belief that airlines shouldn't nickel and dime our Customers.  We don't charge a fee to check your first or second bag, we don't charge a fee for a soda or a snack onboard, we don't charge a fee to talk to one of our Agents on the phone, and we don't charge a fee to change your reservation.

Change fees make no sense; there is no justification.

With my son currently enrolled at Duke University, I am thankful for the direct flights & no fee flying that Southwest offers. However, I was completely blown away this past week when a 'weather alert' was posted for the Raleigh/Durham area and Southwest REALLY showed how much of a no fee airline they are. My son was scheduled to fly into RDU on Tuesday Jan 11, as flights in the southeast area were being canceled/delayed due to the weather. After taking a look at the local weather forecast, I found that the worst weather for the RDU area would be on Tuesday - the day of his flight! It was now Sunday night, around 10:30pm and I was in panic mode. I went to the Southwest website and clicked on the weather alert link. There I found that we could change his flight to Monday morning, avoiding the upcoming inclimate weather - AT NO CHARGE... not even the fare difference!! I was amazed. Although we now had only 7 hours to prepare for his flight, I was so relieved to know that he would not be flying during the snow & ice storm that was approaching. We would not have been able to afford the fare difference to change it otherwise, and I cannot thank Southwest enough for having such a wonderful policy. Thank you, Duke Mom

Employees at LUV love it because they are shown the money. Other than that there isn't much exciting with ABC boarding on a 737. Luckily if LUV ever gets into trouble financially they can rely on SJS: shiny jet syndrome, for its pilots to take wage concessions for the "viability" of the company.

So recently my kids grandmother became pretty sick. My kids we're in town for a wedding and two of them flew southwest and the other two flew delta. I had to change all the tickets so they could stay and see her. Of course, NO PROBLEM on southwest-just had to pay the fare difference. But Delta had a fare increase of only $11.00 and then proceeded to charge me $150.00 per ticket for the change fee!!!!!! I told the delta agent...now I know why I fly Southwest!!! Thanks Southwest for your continued appreciation of your customers and why we will avoid Delta at all costs from here on out!

Employee empowerment, an industry-changing reward program, and a corporate culture that won't allow illogical practices (like change fees and bag fees) make SWA my first choice in flying. Well, all those things plus the chance to fly with a singing flight attendant. Thanks Southwest!

We flew almost with southwest. I really felt great in last April, my only son got sick the night before the early AM flight to Chicago. At around 5 AM like around 1 hour before the flight and said I am not going to be in this plane. Luckily his vomiting and fever got better by noon. At that time I called to catch last 6 pm flight, and guess what I only pay about 20 or 30 dollars on two tickets - which was difference. We love southwest!

I just checked on travel with AirTran & discovered they charge a flat fee of $20 for the 1st checked bag & $25 for the 2nd checked bag + if you want to assign your own seat, it's another $6. I expected a bag fee for domestic travel, & $0 for the 1st checked bag on international travel. Will SWA's "no fee" policy roll over to AirTran? I certainly hope so. I'm a loyal SWA customer for domestic travel, & I was looking forward to using AirTran for some international travel. But with their bag & seat assignment fees, I'll stick with other carriers who do NOT have these international fees.
