Over the past several years, the Southwest Green Team has received an overwhelming number of suggestions from Employees and Customers asking for a more environmentally friendly product than our plastic car seat bags. The Team has been hard at work looking at different options, and this fall we began testing the sale of a reusable car seat/stroller bag. After receiving great feedback from our Customers, we are excited to announce that we are making the reusable car seat/stroller bag a permanent product and are completely discontinuing the plastic bags.

Car Seat Stroller Bag1

The reusable bags cost $17 and are sold at the ticket counter. Although you are not obligated to purchase a bag to check your car seat or stroller, we are “going green” and are no longer providing a free plastic bag to use. Just like we’ve always done, the car seat/stroller bag is conditionally accepted and is checked free-of-charge in addition to the regular free baggage allowance. As a new dad, I’ve found the Southwest-branded reusable car seat/stroller bag to be extremely useful. It is large enough to fit most strollers, including jogging strollers, but you can also fit a standard-sized stroller, car seat, and booster seat inside one bag (keep in mind, these are the only infant items that should be in the car seat/stroller bag). Trust me, it’s really convenient to store all those bulky infant items in one, reusable bag! Plus, it can be folded into an attached pouch for easy storage. Be sure to check out this product the next time you’re traveling through one of our cities. Thank you for supporting our Green efforts!

Way to go Southwest! Not only are you helping the environment but you are doing it in a way that is more convenient for the customer. I would definitely use this bag. Just another reason why Southwest will always have an edge over the competition in customer service.

It says stroller bag and yet your demonstration has a car seat. The FAA strongly urges parents to use a car seat in board and yet your picture is advocating an unsafe practice. There are many "minor accidents or rough turbulance" that the only injuries are in unrestrained passengers, which every lap baby is. Airlines need to promote safety, not give parents a false sense of security. Not to mention baggage is frequently lost and damaged, which then strands parents at their destination

Hi Sarah ... While the FAA does recommend the use of a child safety restraint system (CRS) onboard, a majority of our Customers like to check those devices. We wanted to display that the bag (which replaces the plastic bags we previously offered) will still hold carseats in addition to strollers.

Is the bag big enough for a stroller/infant car seat combo?

Hi Samantha ... Our reusable bag is large enough to fit most strollers, including jogging strollers, but Customers can also fit a standard-sized stroller, car seat, and booster seat inside one bag. Just for your reference the flat measurements of the bag are 49" x 30".

Can it fit a suitcase/bag that is 26 x 16 x 17? Thanks.

Hi Heather .... please note that these bags can only be used for car seats, strollers, and booster seats. They may not be used to transport luggage. Hope this helps!

Are parents required to use the reusable car seat bags when flying on SW or can they put them on the plane without a bag? How many will fit in one bag? Just one? Thank you.

Hi Susan ... You are not required to use a bag when checking a car seat. As for size, as I stated below, our reusable bag is large enough to fit most strollers, including jogging strollers, but Customers can also fit a standard-sized stroller, car seat, and booster seat inside one bag. Just for your reference the flat measurements of the bag are 49″ x 30″. Hope this helps!

Many parents, such as myself, are opting to use the CARES FAA approved harness on board their flight rather than the bulky car seat. Thank you Southwest for providing an affordable option for checking car seats.

Do you happen to have any of these left? I'm traveling alone with my 2 kids in April and was hoping I could get a bag but my airport (Las Vegas) is out and my parent's airport (Cleveland) is also out.

If I wanted to wrap my car seat/stroller in a blanket for added protection in this bag, would that be permitted?  Would it be permitted if I used my own stroller bag?

Hello!  I would like to purchase a sample of this bag.  Any recommendations on how I go about doing this?  Thank you!

can a stroller and infant car seat fit inside the bag TOGETHER? 2 items in 1 bag? thank you

Hi @ElenaKilduff,

It really depends on the size of those items. If you had a small umbrella style stroller, it could definitely work.

I’m confused about the size of this bag. Our car seat is 27.2 x 25.3 x 20.3. Will it fit in the bag?
