I’d Rather Be Drinking Wine…in Napa…Contest

Adventurer C

This summer, Southwest Airlines began offering new wine options to pair with our honey-roasted peanuts! We recently began pouring Costal Ridge Chardonnay and Coastal Ridge Merlot produced and bottled by the Bronco Wine Company, one of the largest in California.  I’m no wine snob, but check out winemaker’s notes on the new wine selections! They’ll make your mouth water!

COASTAL RIDGE MERLOT: "A tasty blend of plum and berry flavors greets the palate with nice herbal aromas and vanilla notes that finishes softly pleasantly dry."
COASTAL RIDGE CHARDONNAY: "A nice, rich and fruit forward wine with flavors of apple, pineapple, butter, and vanilla that finishes long and pleasantly smooth."

To get the word out about our new onboard wine selections, we’re asking YOU to tell us a reason why “You’d Rather Be Drinking Wine than Working.”

Submit your entry to @SouthwestAir via Twitter using the #wineswa hash tag, on our Facebook page, or here in the comments section of this blog. If your reason is funny enough to make the final Top 5, you can win a free two-night stay at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel and Spa and wine tasting experience in Napa Valley, CA. Southwest Airlines will have a panel of highly-qualified comedians and wannabe sommeliers select the Top 5. You know you’d rather be drinking wine than sitting at your desk, so let us know why!

And the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa (@napamarriott on twitter) is offering all Southwest Air blog readers a sweet deal!  Click here for a special “Nuts About Southwest” offer - $99 Sunday -Thursday or $199 Friday-Saturday.  The offer is available to book through Sunday, October 11th for hotel stays through May 31, 2010 and is based on availability.

UPDATE: to hear the winners, listen to our podcast.

I enjoy my flavored wine after a long , long day at work, I think all companies should allow a wine break at 3pm!!! Especially if I were in Napa Valley drinking it!
Explorer C

I'd rather be drinking wine than working, because drinking red wine is known to be good for the heart! (resveratrol, you know) Working is not always so good for the heart. And I *heart* Southwest for taking me to those I LUV so often! Gotta do what is best for the heart!!

I'd rather be drinking fine wine than listening to my kids whine and cry! All this working in the house and poopy diapers are stressing me out! A glass of merlot I can taste the plum and berries as I savor them slow but I can't finish the day without showing love to miss chardonnay. With her rich fruit taste of apples and pineapple this stressed mother of two NEEDS DESPERATLY a vacation from you! So please send me to napa and ill tweet all about the relaxing trip southwest airlines gave me I really need this there's no doubt!!!!

I would be rather drinking wine than working because: 1. Wine makes me think of my husband and looking into his eyes. 2. Working is boring and long. 3. Wine makes me think of Napa Valley and all the beauty. 4. Wine makes me think of great meals. 5. Working is a necessary evil while Wine is a necessary joy.

Because after battling health insurance companies all day just to get a simple Dr.'s appt, I need the pick me up...seriously. =\ This has been one of those months I wish I could FFWD... and what better way to do this than from the deck chair in a vineyard in Napa. So Cheers to you, you health insurance phone tyrants. I need this glass of merlot almost as much as I need that MRI.
Explorer C
I'd rather be drinking wine than working because wine will contribute to my health without making a big deal about it.
Explorer C
I'd rather be drinking wine than working because I can actually look forward to sour grapes.
Explorer C
I'd rather be drinking wine than working because wine usually meets my expectations and I always get the desired results.
Explorer C
Can't I do both, drink wine and work?
Explorer C
Have you chosen a winner yet??!! I am dying with anticipation!
Explorer C
I’d Rather Be Drinking Wine than Working because that means I'm on vacation or visting with friends and there are no deadlines or deliverables other than whose turn it is to open the next bottle of Coastal Ridge. Ahh...downtime.

A recent boss's line Was not so very fine. Indeed my job was gone As the economy was wrong! Planning "dines" serving lovely wines, Was where I spent my time! Now this heart of mine, For this same work does pine. For now my work consists Of making too many lists! On tracking resumes sent, Way too much time is spent. So sipping the fruit of the vine Becomes a way to bide time. Until my phone will ring And winning a job (or this trip) will bring!
