Born and raised in Irvine, California, a town appropriately nicknamed “The Bubble,” I always desired to grow and “find myself” in a big city that encouraged creativity, self-expression, and passion. When college application time came around I chose not to apply to universities in California, but focused my efforts on schools in new cities with entrepreneurial and creative atmospheres. This inspired me to move to Dallas in 2013--a city and state I had never visited, and one without a single familiar face.

I carried that same mindset and desire for growth with me as I applied to the Southwest Airlines Campus Reach Intern program this past year, and it is the reason why I am so in love with Southwest today. Southwest embodies all those aspects I was searching for when looking for a new place to call home. It is a Company that encourages personal growth, creativity, Teamwork, and most importantly, passion.

The passion to deliver quality Customer Service with a Fun-LUVing Attitude is evident from the moment I walk in the front doors to the office in the morning, until I wave goodbye to the security guards at the end of the day. Even though I have only been at Southwest for a month, it feels like I have been a part of the Southwest Family forever.

In addition to passion, another one of my favorite qualities that Southwest stresses is diversity. As Interns, we get the unique opportunity to interact with, and learn from, Departments within the Company that we ordinarily would never work with. As the Operations Strategy Intern in Customer Support & Service, I had the chance to travel to one of Southwest’s seven Call Centers to experience a “day in the life” of a Customer Service Representative--the wonderful folsk who answer our 1 (800) I-FLY-SWA reservation line.

When my Manager and I arrived at the San Antonio Call Center, we were greeted with hugs and a welcome poster! I spent the day listening in on Customer calls, chatting with Representatives to learn their unique Southwest stories, and learning the ropes of our new reservation system. Listening to Customer calls reminded me of why Southwest was so special--it’s because each and every Representative went out of their way to ensure that every Customer had a positive and memorable experience.

Spending the day in a new city with people I never thought I would have the chance to interact with was an amazing experience, and helped give me a new perspective when I returned to work at Headquarters the next day. The diversity of people, thought, and experience that I have had the privilege of interacting with these past few weeks has made this internship that much more special.
