Here at Southwest Airlines, we live by the Golden Rule. We treat each other the way we want to be treated, which is why doing the right thing by our Employees and Customers is inherent to who we are as a Company. This also applies to our Citizenship efforts. A deep feeling of responsibility and genuine care for our local and global community has always been at the Heart of Southwest and drives how we approach our Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) work. We take pride in our reputation as the airline with Heart, and that naturally extends to a passion for making a difference in our communities and protecting our resources.

While onboard, enjoy a catalog with featured content highlighting our Citizenship efforts around Community Outreach, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, and Environmental Sustainability. Videos available inflight include:

  • Advancing Environmental Sustainability in Aviation: Southwest Airlines’ Purpose is to connect People to what's important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel—focusing on what’s important also means tackling the environmental impacts of flying. Over the years, Southwest has proudly shown our Heart for the Planet by working to operate efficiently and protect the environment. Environmental sustainability is an ongoing priority for us and we have set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. There is significant work underway, and we are excited to share some details—including the launch of our 10-year Environmental Sustainability plan.
  • Repurpose with Purpose Goes to School: In celebration of our 50th Anniversary in 2021, Southwest Airlines donated 50,000 pounds of used aircraft leather seat coverings to the Metro Nashville Public School (MNPS) district to support the expansion of our Repurpose with Purpose program into the public education community – for the first time ever! Repurpose with Purpose Goes to School supports a unique sustainability design challenge for more than 6,000 K-12 MNPS Visual Arts Department students in a 3-d environment.

  • Citizenship at Southwest Airlines: At Southwest, being a good global citizen is at the Heart of who we are. We focus on our People, Performance, and Planet in order to live up to our Vision to be the most loved, most efficient, and most profitable airline. We want to be more than an airline, we want to be a good global neighbor.
