If you’re an aspiring Leader, I hope Southwest Airlines is already on your radar. But in case you need more convincing, Southwest ranked #7 on Chief Executive’s 2015 “Best Companies for Leaders” list. ELDP_WordmarkNow is your chance. Southwest is excited to announce a first-time opportunity for external Leaders who are interested in joining our Emerging Leader Development Program, or ELDP. We are seeking candidates with a passion for Leadership and a passion for People for our in-house Leadership training program—a development experience to prepare the future Leaders of Southwest Airlines. Hire for attitude, train for skill. It’s a well-known Southwest-ism that we “hire for attitude and train for skill,” and ELDP is a great example of this mentality. It’s a recruiting and development program designed to create a diverse pipeline of skilled emerging Leaders who are experienced in multiple job duties, can learn to Lead the Southwest Way, and are prepared to take on Leadership roles in a Department, Station, or Center as they become available. For the first time, ELDP is opening its doors to external candidates for April and July 2015 start dates. During the 18-month program, participants rotate through our Operation positions in a Leadership role at Southwest, receiving core job training and Southwest Airlines Leadership training. Potential rotations could include Customer Service Supervisor, Ramp Supervisor, or Cabin Services Supervisor. Participant training occurs anywhere within Southwest Airlines, and is based upon need and availability of training resources. Candidates are expected to move to a hosting city for the duration of the 18-month program. You’ll spend time with our senior Leaders, in Leadership training classes, job shadowing, learning about our Departments, networking, and will receive individual development, training plans, and performance appraisals following each rotation. Participants must attend all scheduled meetings and training, meet the objectives and expectations for each rotation, and graduate from the program.  Upon successful completion of the program, participants are placed in a Leadership role at a Southwest Airlines location based upon business need. Servant Leaders…now boarding! Veterans, recent college graduates, and experienced Leaders are encouraged to apply. Among other qualifications, Southwest recognizes the skills gained in serving our country, the experience earned in working toward an educational goal, and the value of proven Leadership skills from a variety of industries. Qualified candidates need to be willing to relocate. In order to gain the necessary skills developed in this program, Employees are required to move to train. Additionally, completion of the program will require placement in the city most demanded by business need. Finally, we are looking for applicants with a passion for People, in addition to a Passion for Leadership! Our Leadership Expectations require Servant Leaders who can develop people, build great teams, and think strategically. Apply now at southwest.com/careers, and let your leadership skills soar at Southwest.

Is there a way I can join the Emerging Leader Development Program (ELDP). I have been trying to be a Family Member for quite a long time and not really sure how to begin.
