My internship journey: From the Caribbean to Campus Reach

Having lived in the Caribbean most of my life, moving 2,300 miles from the U.S. Virgin Islands and settling into life in Dallas for the next four months will surely have some challenges, but it’s definitely worth it for an internship at such an awe-inspiring company. Coming to Southwest is nothing short of a dream come true. I had heard so much about Southwest when I applied back in May to intern this semester. Since I am an English major and Computer Science minor at the University of the Southern Caribbean (Trinidad), a career in technical writing is of interest to me. The application process was somewhat rigorous as I was taking summer classes, working long hours at the library, all while prepping heavily for some of the most important phone calls in my life! When I got the call that I was accepted into the Campus Reach Internship program at Southwest, it was all worth it! Headshot The joy of being accepted into the program was heightened even further the first time I walked through the front doors of the Southwest Headquarters in Dallas. Everywhere I looked, there were model 737 airplanes. I felt as though all the hard work had paid off. Looking forward, there are so many awesome projects that I am excited to start undertaking. Specifically, I’ll get to work firsthand with the aircraft librarians at Love Field Airport doing audits on incoming aircraft. Overall, I’ll be the first to admit that landing an internship at Southwest Airlines can be challenging and competitive, yet totally rewarding. I don’t consider myself lucky, but rather I am blessed to be given the opportunity to learn and grow as an individual. The time here at Southwest will be full of great experiences, and I hope to share them with all my friends and family all over the world!
