Playlists anyone?

Running weather. Here in Phoenix, it usually corresponds with the time shortly after school starts. I've never been a runner, but I did run in the PF Changs Rock 'n Roll Arizona 1/2 Marathon a couple of years ago. It's 13.2 miles, and I don't have that long of an attention span, so my husband caved into the marketing pressure and bought me an iPod. Although I thought it was a waste of money at the time, I have to admit I've had fun with it - particularly with the playlist function. I've made a few lists, and I always wonder what other people are listening to when I see them run by with their little white earbuds. Not being particularly motivated to run, I need a big push...music that makes me want to run. So, I'm sharing a list of mine with you, at the risk of maybe allowing too much insight into my brain. What are your playlists? I'm training for the half marathon again. This time I'm walking with my sisters. Suggestions?

Jill, your post made me laugh, because I don't think of myself as a "runner" either, but I did finish the OKC and NYC marathons in 2004. What amazing experiences! I couldn't have done it without my MP3 player, either. It's funny what songs make good running soundtracks for different people! Here are a few that helped me make it through 26.2 miles: Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads; Right Now - Van Halen; Mrs. Potter's Lullaby - Counting Crows; Honkey Tonk Woman - Rolling Stones; I'm Gonna Be - The Proclaimers; and Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves. My marathoning days are over, but I've found a new hobby in cheering for runners at marathons. Good luck with your next half!! 😃

Well, I do run, but definately not a marathon or a half marathon...I am more of a 5K girl myself. Being the new owner of an Ipod I have had so much fun adding songs to my playlists. I am VERY random, so hopefully someone will enjoy my songs. The best ones to pump me up are: September-Earth, Wind, and Fire, Fighter-Christina Aguilera, For Those About to Rock-AC/DC, Monkey Wrench-Foo Fighters, I Alone-Live, Fuel-Metallica, Tell Me Baby-Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hook-Blues Traveler, Freedom-George Michael, Desire-U2, You'd Better-The Who. I promise you, if you download these and just let them shuffle, you will be through the first few miles in no time!

I just found a a GREAT podcast on Itunes that you everyone can subscribe to at itunes. Just do a search for fitpod.com and subscribe to their free tune downloads which are updated weekly. They also have a website where you can find everything fitness / ipod(y)! (Is ipody a workd?) I hope you all have a great weekend! James Malone MDW FA

I find instrumental music is good to excercise to. I don't run myself, but i do rollerblade, and i find the time passes faster when you're not listening to any lyrics. Instrumental Rock can be pretty good. Check out Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, or Explosions in the Sky. A lot of Instrumental Hip Hop is good too. Stuff like DJ Shadow or Prefuse 73 is very interesting to listen to, so you won't be bored. Plus, it has a good beat that keeps you moving.

I agree with you Jill... and I, too, need my music to "go the distance." I'm traveling to Sacramento THIS WEEKEND to compete in the Sacramento Cowtown Marathon. I'll have a sassy mix of Black-eyed Peas, Def Leopard, Britney Spears, Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffet, U2, Collective Soul, Jessica Simpson, Pat Green, and Martina McBride. I have a very braod taste in music, but what really matters is getting that PERFECT song at the perfect time... like when you're ready to quit at mile 22 but know you've worked too hard to give up now, then suddenly "Let's Get Rocked" from Def Leopard starts playing. POW you're headed to the finish line and not looking back... I'll be flying SWA (of course)... do you think they'll let me play my song list Inflight to pump me up for the race?

I have just recently fallen in love with running again after a long hiatus. I am training for a marathon, myself and the music that pumps me up is: anything from the Black Eyed Peas; Maroon 5; older, classic Michael Jackson tunes; and my all-time favorite (I have four albums by them on my iPod) Less Than Jake. I highly recommend all of them... and of course, the occasional Christmas carol.... 🙂 You just never know what will surprisingly get you going on "shuffle"!

No marathons here baby, but I do work out 5 nights a week ( mostly because I love to eat). Here are some rules to live by: Exercise is a JOURNEY, but it HURTS SO GOOD. If you eat too many BLACK EYED PEAS, then you tend to get a little BOOTYLICIOUS, NO DOUBT. Don't throw STONES at people at the gym with perfect bodies. Never work out in BAD COMPANY. And last but not least....Lean Cuisines taste better with a little SALT N PEPPA on it! Rock on with your bad self Jilly Bean!
