SOUTHWEST AIRLINES RESPONDS TO FAA’S ANNOUNCEMENT
REGARDING TODAY’S SETTLEMENT OF PROPOSED PENALTY

DALLAS—March 2, 2009—Southwest Airlines is pleased that we have been able to resolve all outstanding issues with the FAA as we continue to work together to ensure the highest degree of flight safety for the public. This settlement with the FAA will allow us to focus on safety going forward, rather than on issues that are now behind us and that have already been addressed. Through comprehensive audits by the FAA, our own audits, and work by outside consultants, we are confident we have identified and addressed those issues.

I was on those planes when they were not being inspected. Do we get reimbursed for the fare at least? I have my infant on that plane as well. What IF???

Number one, those planes were safe and the FAA understands that. What a shame though. Great airlines has to pay money that they don't have just to validate the faa's power.... Only in America.

The planes were safe? The FAA just did it to validate its power with the second largest fine ever imposed...? Did you just swallow a stupid pill or have you always had those blinders on? LOL

The planes were unsafe? The FAA doesn't have a power trip? The government is always right? They always tell the whole truth? Please.... Yes , companies need to be held accountable for their mistakes. However, without mistakes in this case the FAA is out of business, right?

@ joe the plumber: You do realize that this is a year old story right? Do you also realize that both Boeing AND the FAA failed to follow up up on this so called "required" maintenance schedule? You may want to educate yourself before making a fool of yourself in public. - although if you really are Joe the Plumber, you've got nothing to lose.
