Tasty honey roasted peanuts are back and ready for takeoff! We like to shake it up at Southwest and switch between lightly salted and honey roasted peanuts.  The new year is all about tradition and the Spirit of Southwest as we celebrate our 40th anniversary, so what better way to celebrate than with the famous honey roasted nuts we all LUV?

Honey roasted peanuts are the highlight of any Southwest flight. Whether you’re flying a short distance or coast to coast, honey roasted peanuts will be there to add FUN to your flying experience. These sweet snacks are in transition to all Southwest aircrafts and by February 1st every flight will have honey roasted peanuts.

Honey roasted peanuts are just a bite-sized aspect of the Fun-LUVing culture and Spirit of Southwest. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this tasty treat on your next Southwest flight!

I have to believe that Southwest certainly has more to offer its customers than peanuts! Peanut allergies KILL people. It is out of complete ignorance or total disregard of the life-threatening nature of peanut allergies, that airlines serve these snacks to begin with. I can only hope that this is born out of ignorance and can be overcome by additional research on this topic. Is serving peanuts more important than saving a life? Your airline has many other things going for it than this one thing. Please capitalize on other items that make flying great with you!

Although I love peanuts as much as the next passenger, I fly your airline specifically because you handle peanut allergies very well by not serving them on our flight. My son has severe allergy to all nuts and various other foods. Just contact with this food could cause him his life. I wish more people understood how serious a problem food allergies are today and how much stress it puts on the parents. I think passengers can survive a couple hour flight without peanuts and find another safe snack like a pretzel or a chip or granola bar to satisfy them and then enjoy the nuts when they arrive at their destination. I don't think that is too much to ask to protect a life. You would want the same thing too if it was your life or your child's.

I really wish you would reconsider serving peanuts and/or peanut products on your flight. We def. will not be using your airlines, as my son is very allergic to peanuts (even airborne and contact). There is no reason you can not serve a safer snack aboard your flights. With the rise in peanut allergies, I am very shocked that you would do such a thing.

Do NOT LUV it -- it is NO FUN! And what does it say that honey roasted peanuts would be the highlight of a flight? How about on-time, reduced fares, and a safe landing? My son has a severe allergy to peanuts and had an almost fatal reaction to a trace amount of peanut. Very disappointed in Southwest's choice which leaves us no choice but to choose another airline.

I love those peanuts! I just got them today on my flight! Happy 40th!

I just don't understand the logic...have you not looked at the math. If one person in a family has a peanut allergy then the whole family can not travel on your airline. If the average family has 4 people then you have to multiply the loss of customers from people with peanut allergies by four tiem to get the number of customers you have alienated. This doesn't even include the number of people who have otehr allergies and those who know people with food allergies who may be prone to choose another airline in sympathy for those with food allergies. Just take the time to look at the issue from a practical business perspective.

You folks do realize that folks bring their own food on the aircraft. Who knows what types of products they are, shellfish, strawberries, nuts (tons of granola mixes out there). To say that SW is doing a dis-service by serving peanuts is just absurd. Peanuts are NOT new to Southwest, they've been on their planes for 40 years. Just the flavors rotate from the honeyroasted to the lightly salted. Not sure how you folks work around flying on the other airlines where the passengers have their own food items as well, any of which could contain something someone is allergic to.

Not sure why you continue to hand out peanuts on flights that frequently have passengers and children of passengers with a history of peanut allergy? I would opt for pretzels for everyone:-) Just my opinion.

Are all these comments for real? I have three children under 5 years old and i would never consider flying any other airline. This is the most helpful and kind airline they even pushes my double stroller while i was pregnant to help me get from one gate to another. They installed my carseats in the airplace for my children and even entertained and held my daughter while i went to the restroom. Seriously peanuts is how you are going to decide if its a good airline or not? Just dont eat the things. As for no snack at all thats just un called for. After 2 hours in an airport with over priced food its nice to sit down in a seat with a little snack. I agree there should be multiple choices of snacks. but im greatful there is one at all so many other airlines offer nothing. As time goes on i wonder what all of you did in the past. I have been flying for 28 years and i clearly remember peanuts as a staple snack on all airlines. I also remember meals on flights. If you dont like it or cant eat it bring your own snack or dont eat it. Dont ruin it for everyone else. I saw someone say how about pretzles. Wel wouldnt that upset the people with wheat allergies! lol maybe they sholdnt have soda and should only offer water since sugar causes cavities and there are diabetics who fly who may not be able to drink alcohol so lets not offer that either. Come on people but your big girl underwear on and grow up. Due what suits you but dont super impose your choices on the rest of the world.

Is there any marketing research that suggests a person would choose your airline for one type of peanut over another? I don't have any allergies, I just don't like peanuts. I remember cringing the first time a flew with my daughter, before I had given her any peanut products, which was not the way I wanted to find out that she does not have allergies. What's wrong with pretzels or chocolate covered pretzels or m&m's?

I'm surprised by all the vitriol over nuts. I'm sympathetic for those with allergies, but they do offer alternatives and if your condition is so severe you cant be in their presence then there are plenty of other airlines which dont offer them, or you should seek medical advice before travelling. Lashing out at others because of your anger towards your condition is not the answer.

Kudos to Southwest for allowing the posts from concerned (potential) customers. These posts are screened, and Southwest has thus far allowed 60-plus comments to be posted (tastefully) criticizing the airline. As for those of us non-allergic types...I had the honey-roasted nuts on a flight yesterday, and I loved 'em. I need to find a big jar of these for the house. 🙂

To the 60 + people that posted about allergies and epi pens, etc. I too suffer from a legume allergy, however, I always alert the airline to my allergy, and on those flights they do NOT board any peanuts for snacks. Southwest has offered this for years, and I am happy to say that I've never had an attack on one of their flights.

Peanuts are life threatening to many, I can't believe you continue to subject passengers to this threat. Stick with pretzels.

Was this blog linked to the "PWCWPA" (parents with children with peanut allergy) blog? How about some peanut butter cookies as a choice as well? Yum

What's problem about peanuts? I have been on Southwest Flights in the past where they have announced that there are folks on the plane with nut allergies and peanuts will not be served on the flight. They passed out pretzels with the drinks instead. Just tell them that you or a family membrane has this allergy when you make the reservation and they will try to accomodate you.

I am crying my eyes out right now. My daughter has life threatening peanut allergy and we now have to cancel our purchased tickets to visit her grandparents for spring break because she could die. All I can say is I am a moderate, I would never have asked for people to not bring their peanuts on to the airplane, however asking that the airline not to give out 300 bags of peanuts on the same flight as my daughter makes it "reasonable". Not now thought, as even if the airline doesn't give out the peanuts on our "flight" many of the passengers may be quite angry, thus hurting my life long cause of education of food allergy. This is raw pain, and perhaps tomorrow I will feel better, but this is truly crushing. Not that our trip will be cancelled and we will not be able to afford last minute tickets on another airline, but that our cause takes such a hit by this choice, and I fear for the thousands of peanut allergic children and adults that don't know they have this terrible allergy and end up on one of your flights. We have always flown Southwest, all members of our family, and I wish you luck, but this choice has done more harm than you will ever know.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the honey roasted peanuts...thank you southwest for making my flying experience even that much more enjoyable!!! What do you peanut allergy ppl do at restaurants...any food chain,...stores..peanuts are EVERYWHERE...why don't you gripe about all the other places as well. Kudos to Southwest for trying to accommodate everyone!! Southwest is the super-hero among airlines...I have always and will continue to use Southwest!!

With the rise in life threatening peanut allergies in our country could honestly not find something else to serve your customers?!! So many people will not be able to fly on your airlines now to see their family and friends because they or someone in their family is allergic to peanuts and could die in flight if they take the chance on your airline. I have several friends that I know who will no longer be able to fly Southwest. And, if I know several people, that means there are so very many more out there. Please reconsider your snack choice.

Okay..clearly from the loads and loads of negative comments that are showing up here, this whole peanut promotion (flying with "my little peanut" aka flying with my instantly deadly poisonous food) and bringing this poison to so many, back into the planes is a huge mistake. Seriously, it is 2011..your PR and marketing staff is severely out of touch and just lost loads of business. and the whole peanut logo/ blog etc is seriously offensive. Clearly, someone at Southwest needs to get this!!

I just did a airline search for prices this summer and was so excited to see the one way web prices. However I also did a search for peanut allergies on Sounthwest and this page came up. I am glad I found it because now I know I have to fly American or Continental etc.. I was really hoping to try you out. Please STOP serving peanuts. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!! Thank you, Christine

Just forwarded all this info onto Facebook. I am calling the news today. Maybe if we get enough hype and bad press you will change your policy. I mean really...so many have been pleading with you to STOP serving peanuts. Seems like a very ignorant choice. Please listen to everyone, Christine

I am so disappointed!!!! I grant you that Honey roasted peanuts are very tasty. But with the growing life threatening allergies to peanuts I find that SOUTHWEST is Very Insensitive to this growing condition in our society!! I was going to book flights for a family of 5. But my son and I have a peanut allergy . And to see how proud Southwest is about promoting their peanuts in a confine area as in a plane with no way to avoid the peanuts or seek medical attention if needed. It makes me Disgusted with Southwest airline. They could give them a pack of peanuts when they leave the airplane if it is so important to them. We are so blessed with so many foods to snack on. Why a snack like nuts that many people (Especially Children- some not even knowing that they have the allergy YET) could die or ruin their trip ..from in an air tight area. Shame on SouthWest!! They have known this to be a great concern and have slapped the allergic community....that is ever growing.

I, too, hate to see that Southwest is again offering peanuts. I certainly didn't miss them on the numerous flights I took this past year. My grandson is severely allergic to peanuts - I assume you will continue to pull peanuts from flights if the person checks in two hours prior to the flight. However, there is still contamination on the plane if peanuts have been served on a prior flight.

I LOVE honey roasted peanuts. Thank you for bringing them back. As a matter of fact I am trying to order these to have at home.

I guess this rule your airlines out for us as we have a child with a peanut allergy.

Fingers crossed Southwest doesn't force peanuts on Air Tran because that was one of the few airlines we felt comfortable still flying. Southwest: pretzels are cheaper and you won't lose so many families to other airlines if you served pretzels.

The airlines that don't serve peanuts also don't prevent people from bringing them on. Southwest does accommodate passengers with allergies, as does Delta, which is the other major airline that still offers peanuts. That said, I'd like to offer a suggestion. Replace the peanuts with almonds or pecans. Both are healthier and there are far fewer allergies to true nuts like almonds than there are to peanuts (which aren't really nuts - they are in the same family as peas and beans). Particularly with honey roasting, I'm guessing lots of people wouldn't even notice the difference.

Wow - guess Southwest could care less about customers who face this life-threatening allergy. Can't fathom why the powers that be at Southwest prefer to risk a passenger going into anaphylaxis in flight rather than deny customers some nuts. My family has been using SW to fly to Florida every year - not going to happen anymore.

Whats the deal with peanuts anyway? As an adult with a peanut allergy I always put myself at risk when flying. Southwest always has original ideas.. why not serve something more original that wont threaten anyone's life? raisins? prezels? goldfish? there are so many delicious alternatives..why not make flights safer? I love flying Southwest, but this issue really upsets me.

Love the honey roasted peanuts, but I think they would seem more fitting in the gold packaging. Gold looks like honey.
