Southwest Airlines--Something Old and Something New

Adventurer A

While Southwest is very excited about our newest city, Panama City Beach, there was also some recent celebrating on the other side of the country.

A makeshift dance floor at Gate 405 complete with a DJ, mothers dancing with their babies, and smiles everywhere you looked.   This was the scene you would have walked into if you were flying Southwest Airlines out of Ontario, California on May 20.  We LUV to celebrate our milestones at Southwest, and Ontario’s silver anniversary was no different.

As we served coffee and pastries to our Customers, we met a few original Customers who had been flying Southwest out of Ontario for 25 years.  They remembered the airstairs at the old terminal and watching the new terminal being built across the street.  We also met some first time Customers who told us their family and friends had recommended Southwest because bags fly free and our Employees know how to have fun.  These Southwest newbies told us that their family and friends were right.

The celebration continued for our Ontario Employees with a southern spread from Famous Dave’s and cupcakes frosted in Southwest colors red, orange, and of course, canyon blue.

To top it all off, Employees Shared the Spirit of the 25th Anniversary by sending smiles to children at the Pomona Valley Hospital and the Loma Linda Childrens Hospital by decorating handmade get well or thinking of you cards.  These greeting cards will be distributed through the Inland Empire HandsOn Network.

Ontario began with five daily nonstops to Phoenix when it debuted on the Southwest route map in May 1985 and has grown to 42 daily nonstop departures to seven cities:  Chicago (Midway), Denver, Las Vegas, Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento, and San Jose.  Congratulations, Ontario on 25 years of bringing Southwest Customers our Low Fares and legendary Customer Service to our Customers in the Los Angeles Basin and Inland Empire.  As one of our Customers said to me on Thursday, here’s to 25 more!
