In mid-October, we announced our intent to return to both George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas (IAH) and Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson, Mississippi (JAN). Today, we’re excited to say that you’ll start seeing our Boeing-737s starting in 2021.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas

Nearly 50 years after beginning service, Southwest will return to the airport it first served in Houston, Texas, George Bush Intercontinental in April 2021. This additional service at the city’s north side airport will complement Southwest’s longtime Houston operation at William P. Hobby Airport.

Starting April 12, 2021, Southwest Customers will be able to fly between Houston (Bush) and five destinations nonstop: Chicago (Midway), Dallas (Love Field), Denver, Nashville, and New Orleans. These new flights are available for purchase now at Southwest.com.

Southwest first-served Houston through Houston (Bush), a point in the iconic “Texas Triangle” of original airports linked together on the first day of its operation, June 18, 1971. Southwest served Houston (Bush) until 1972 and again between 1980 and 2005.

Since landing in Houston, the airline has grown to become one of the largest employers in the city, employing nearly 4,000 People. Additionally, the carrier has also grown to become Hobby Airport’s largest airline, offering up to 161 flights a day to nearly 70 destinations across the United States, Caribbean, and Latin America.

Hurry and book your next trip to Houston now on Southwest.com!

Also returning to the Southwest map in 2021 is Jackson, MS, with service beginning June 6, 2021. Southwest previously served Jackson from 1997 to 2014.

Southwest will serve Mississippi for Customers across the country through three nonstop routes to and from Jackson, MS: Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington (BWI), and Houston (Hobby). This service is also available for purchase now at Southwest.com

More Dots, Fun Spots!

As you can see, our Network Planning team has been hard at work constantly evaluating new travel opportunities for our Customers to enjoy. We will continue to connect you, our Customers, to the People and places that are important in your lives. When we’re not adding new cities to our network, we’re searching for areas to expand and improve our operations and service. That being said, we’re excited to continue growing in Long Beach, CA by almost doubling our daily departures on most days of the week.

Starting March 11, 2021, we’re adding daily service from Long Beach (LGB) to Houston (Hobby), Chicago (Midway), St. Louis, Reno/Tahoe, and Dallas (Love Field)! This growth allows for better travel opportunities and is available for sale at Southwest.com.

New Flights to International Sites

Time to dust off your passport! Southwest will resume daily nonstop service on March 11, 2021, between Houston (Hobby) and Cozumel, Mexico, and between both Houston (Hobby) and Chicago (Midway) and Montego Bay, Jamaica, and weekly service on Saturdays between both Columbus, Ohio and San Antonio and Cancun.

In March 2021, we will add a third destination in Mexico nonstop from our newest international gateway in Phoenix. Effective March 12, 2021, Southwest will offer once-daily nonstop service between Phoenix and Cancun, joining our existing service from Phoenix to both Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. Be sure to book your next flight to one of these new sites on Southwest.com.
