As the holidays approach, I’ve been looking forward to some of my favorite family traditions like sitting by the fire, trying new recipes, and (of course) thinking about where we want to travel in the New Year. This holiday season our family will have more destinations to think about than ever before: Beginning in the second quarter of 2021, Southwest Airlines intends to serve Santa Barbara Airport (Santa Barbara, CA) and Fresno Yosemite International Airport (Fresno, CA) in California. These new cities join the ten other new cities and airports that Southwest has announced in 2020. With the upcoming addition of Santa Barbara, CA, Fresno, CA, and the recent launch of Palm Springs, Southwest will serve 13 airports in the Golden State.

Southwest loves the Golden State, and the feeling is mutual! Air travelers to, from, and within California choose to fly Southwest more than any other airline. Adding service to more California airports will make flying Southwest an even more attractive option for Californians, and California-bound Customers from across the network.

  • Fresno, CA, flights will give Fresno-origin Customers the opportunity to experience Southwest’s legendary Hospitality, while providing convenient access to California’s central valley, Yosemite, and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park.

  • Santa Barbara, CA service will enhance Southwest’s offering in Southern California by providing another local airport for Customers. Located on the Pacific coast along Highway 101, Santa Barbara, CA will be a particularly convenient addition for Customers north of the Santa Monica Mountains.

  • Palm Springs joined the Southwest network in November 2020, when we launched flights to Oakland (San Francisco Bay Area), Denver, and Phoenix. Palm Springs—located in the Sonoran Desert east of LA—is a favorite destination for sun-seeking Customers in the north and across the West Coast.

The holidays can be busy, but this year—between visions of sugar plums and pretending you know the words to Auld Lang Syne—don't forget to think about the new destinations you’ll be able to explore with Southwest. Circle some dates, make a packing list, and keep an eye on Southwest.com for more information about schedules and destinations.

We are excited about your new routes but WHEN will you resume flights to Costa Rica in 2021?  We are anxious to learn if this will actually happen.  Thank you
