Environmental sustainability is an important part of our future, which is why we’ve steadily increased our focus in this area as a Company. This includes investing in initiatives that reduce our operations’ carbon emissions intensity.

It’s an honor to share the Port of Seattle has awarded Southwest Airlines and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) Team the “2022 Port of Seattle Sustainable Century Aviation Award”. This award highlights the greatest airline use of ground power systems to reduce emissions, while docked at SEA airport gates.

Our Team at SEA was presented with this award for utilizing gate services more efficiently than any airline while the aircraft is parked at the gate. This includes high-frequency use of electric ground power and pre-conditioned air systems, as well as the longest connectivity to ground power systems. Together, these operations result in significant fuel savings and emission reductions for the surrounding community, per the Port of Seattle.

Southwest Airlines and the SEA Station are proud to be recognized by the Port of Seattle with the 2022 Aviation Award, and we look forward to continuing our partnership on environmental sustainability initiatives.

Congrats, to the SEA Team!
