When Southwest started flying to the Caribbean, we editors at
Southwest: The Magazine were pretty excited. I mean, the idea that this beautiful nearby sea just got even closer? But professionally speaking, the Caribbean presented a problem. What could we possibly do in the magazine that hadn’t already been done by a jillion travel writers.
We thought: kids. Yeah, kids had been done before, but we’d do it differently. We recruited one of the wisest women I know,
Chicago Tribune columnist
Heidi Stevens, to write about traveling with children. Then we came up with
23 reasons to bring kids to the Caribbean. Honestly, it wasn’t hard to come up with them. We actually left out the biggest reason of all: because it’s fun!
My personal favorite Caribbean destination? Belize. It has the world’s second largest barrier reef, after Australia. Now that I think of it, maybe it’s just the place for our next family vacation. Happy reading!
