Summer Getaway to Colorado Springs | A Family-Friendly Itinerary

This trip was sponsored by Southwest Airlines. All opinions are my own.

Colorado Springs is known for its beautiful landscape which includes rock formations, waterfalls, and mountains. Located about an hour south of Denver, Colorado Springs has so many things to do for the entire family!

Now that Southwest Airlines is flying directly into Colorado Springs, it made it an easy getaway for this East Texas girl!

Hi, I’m Kirstie Kay (@kirstie_kayyy) here from Share it Sister, a lifestyle and travel blog out of Tyler, TX, in which I encourage families to spend more time with their family and friends, travel as much as possible, and make countless memories together.

When Southwest reached out to me to partner with them to show off one of their newest destinations, I was thrilled for the opportunity to travel with my husband and kids and go explore a new city!

Five Family-Friendly Things to do in Colorado Springs

Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is a MUST when visiting Colorado Springs. You can hike, bike, rock climb, and go horseback riding through the beautiful formations. They also offer Segway and Jeep Tours throughout the park with Adventures Out West.

We chose to do the jeep tour when we first arrived, where we were able to learn all the history of Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, North Cheyenne Canon Park, and Helen Hunt Falls.

Pikes Peak

Take a scenic drive along Pikes Peak Highway to the top of Pikes Peak where you can take in 360-degree views from the 14,115-foot summit of America’s Mountain. It’s a beautiful 20-mile drive to the top of the mountain where you can make multiple stops along the way to hike, take pictures, or just take in the scenery.

Don’t want to drive? Take a ride on the COG Railway to the top of the summit!

Royal Gorge Bridge and Park + Railroad

The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park is located about an hour south of Colorado Springs and is well worth the trip!

The Royal Gorge Bridge is the tallest suspension bridge in North America. You can take a walk across the bridge, ride the Gondola, or even zip line from one side to the other.

Scared of heights? Hop on the Royal Gorge Route which is a 2-hour train ride at the bottom of the gorge alongside the Arkansas River to take in the beautiful views from below.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo was by far one of the coolest zoos we have been to! The kids loved it and the views are phenomenal. You can even hop on the sky ride up the mountain to view many of the animals and scenery from above.

Explore Manitou Springs

Manitou Springs is a small town at the foot of Pikes Peak that offers shopping, dining, and fun. We spent a couple of hours letting the kids play at their famous Penny Arcade and they had such a blast! As you stroll through town make sure you enjoy the natural spring water that you can find throughout.

There were so many other things we wanted to do and explore while in Colorado Springs such as Broadmoor Seven Falls, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, and North Pole Santa’s Workshop.

Colorado Springs really is the perfect family-friendly destination for any family that enjoys adventures and the outdoors. For more family-friendly travel content, be sure to follow me over on @Kirstie_Kayyy or check out my blog at Share It Sister.
