Super Bowl Watercooler Talk

Since Nuts About Southwest is an online "watercooler," we thought we would give everyone their chance to chat about the Super Bowl and the commercials. Congrats to the Colt fans, and all of us Cowboy fans have empathy for Bears supporters.  By the way, we will have some longer Southwest-related posts up this week, although we are a Proud Sponsor of the NFL.

While I usually don't root for either the Bears or the Colts (go Seahawks!), I found myself cheering on the Colts during the Superbowl. I was mostly disappointed in the commercials this year though, except for one shining moment. There was a (GM?) commercial featuring an assembly-line robot and his nightmare about dropping a screw. Best commercial ever! The Coke commercials scared me over to Pepsi though. Doritos had an interesting campaign since the fans wrote the commercials for the Superbowl. Congrats Colts fans, my sympathy Bears fans. Brian - Sorry about your Cowboys. I personally was happy to see them go since it meant my team got to proceed (and my dad now owes me dinner - he's in Dallas, I'm in Seattle). I just wish the Seahawks had actually beat the Cowboys instead of Romo beating the Cowboys.

Is it me, or were the ads lackluster and sub-par this year? Nothing caught my eye, none of them made me go "WOW!"

The ads this year did seem pretty lame. After half-time, I caught myself thinking, "Hey, when are they going to air the funny commercials?" I wish SWA would go back to airing those "Must Be Football Season" ad campaign.

Being a Saints supporting Flight attendant based in Chicago, its awesome to see the Bears lose after all the mess that I had to put up with after we lost!!!!

Go COWBOYS!!!!!! Go CHARGERS!!!!!! They will be back next year. To be honest i did not like any of the commercials. I had higher expectations. They game itself was interesting, especially with all of that rain. THE ONE AND ONLY FRANCISCO

My favorite commercial was the CBS Promo that opened with Dave Letterman talking to someone about the Colts and Bears. Then the camera panned over to show he was sitting on a sofa cuddling with Oprah. Totally unexpected. Blog Boy

Sure would have been nice to see a wanna get away ad! Starring Bill Owens and his story of the schedule extension thread. Hopefully he is getting some vacation time and a better motherboard. Joe

Keep the faith raider fans. The raider nation will rise again. My predicition for next year's superbowl is: Raiders vs 9ers...

Should I mention the lions? Nah, that will never happen. Joe

Hmmmmm, I sat glued to the local bowling channel waiting for this "Super Bowl" thing to come on, but I must have missed it... Clueless about such things, Blog Boy #3 🙂

Barbi is right. The assembly-line robot captured my heart. The creators did an outstanding job to humanize it, and I found myself relieved that it was all just a dream. The Budweiser spotted dog had a Hallmark feel, but it didn't make me want their beer like the greeting card commercials compel me to "send the very best." After the annual hype about having to tone it down for acceptance, the Go Daddy spot was a big let-down this year, and I'm a customer.

Terry, as to the robot commercial, I expected a robot Clarence the Angel to jump in ahead of him off the bridge. Then he could have said, "Whenever you hear a gear grind, a robot angel just got his wings." I too was let down by Go Daddy, it needed more dancer and less of the boss. And, to Blog Boy #3, I hear the pro bowling tour was in El Paso this past weekend. Who won? Joe, we have professional help standing by for Bill--just in case, but he really does enjoy the conversation. At least, that's what he tells me. The widely recognized Blog Boy--accept no substitutes

For the most part I wasn't impressed with the commercials. None of them made me want to run out and buy anything. I liked the Blockbuster mouse and the Budweiser spotted dog. Paul Teutul selling computers was brilliant. I realize it was a football game, but I was surprised at the amount of violence in many of the spots. A car wreck to sell Doritos? Hit your friend in the head with a rock to get the last Bud Light? A robot committing suicide? An axe-wielding hitchhiker? This wasn't advertising's finest moment.

I don't know why I was expecting to see a Southwest spot, my bad, Southwest is an low-cost carrier.

I too thought the commercials were too boring, but I'm most happy for Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy of the Colts winning the Super Bowl. They are both class citizens!!!! Peyton is the Cal Ripken Jr. of football as he's started every game possible for the Colts since he got drafted. And Tony Dungy defined proper fundamentals of coaching in the NFL.

Peyton Manning was due a Superbowl. Good for the colts! As far as the commercials go, borring. As compared to the past. Don't go to the half time show, you don't want my oppinion about who they got, they could do better.

OK, is it just me, or did this Super Bowl (and the lame commercials) go by REALLY quickly?? I already feel like the game happened a month ago......I guess that comes with not really being a fan of either team. Though I'm with you Van, I'm very happy for the Peyton and Dungy - class all the way!

After having the best recruiting year in a long time, USC will win another championship next year. Vegas is picking them to win it all with 5:1 odds. Michigan has 8:1 odds. Looks like sc will show the wolverines who's boss again...
