What Should I Do?

halloween-kiss.jpgI need your advice pronto.  Halloween (which is a huge Southwest Airlines celebration) is less than two months away, and I still haven't decided who I should be for Halloween.  The past three years have been a lot of fun for me as I got to be Gene Simmons of KISS, Wild Bill Hickok, halloween-wild-bill.jpgand Captain Jack Sparrow.  Your help was invaluable last year, so I am asking for your assistance again this Halloween. My "Halloween Helpers" need to go costume hunting very soon, so please leave me your thoughts as soon as possible. halloween-gary.jpg

How about going as Dog the Bounty Hunter? You would wear Wear black jeans, a bullet-proof vest without a shirt, a leather band around your biceps, tool belt with a can of mace, and, of course, a long blond mullet. You would carry around a "Wanted" poster with your fugitive's picture and information. You would also flash the "hang loose" sign a lot, and call everyone "Brah."

The second I saw John Travolta in full drag as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray, I thought to myself, "wow, Gary definitely needs to be that for Halloween 2007!"

For Halloween last year, I went to a party as one of my favorite people - a Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant. I had blue vest, khakis and polo...I printed out a SWA wings picture and taped it on my vest. I even made a safety briefing card, just so people could follow along :) If you aren't already, if you start now you could probably get your FA certification in time for Halloween, right? Oh the fun!

Carl, Maybe it would be better if Gary was Leland? Then he could tatoo his arm :-) There's fear and darkness all around you. The criminals are on the run. No use in hiding in the dark. I'll hunt you down cause I'm the ding! boy. Joe

Gary, I would suggest a giant piece of candy corn, but then Brian would follow you around all day and wouldn't get ANY work done. Wait, he doesn't get any work done now. So, go for it! I would suggest going as a Prius painted to look like one of your 737s, but that's already been done. And, I would suggest going as our alma mater's mascot, but you're one of the few airline CEOs who is not full of bull. You oughta ask Sunny -- she's very creative and is bound to come up with something that would fit the "inner Gary"! Kim Who will probably dress up as a blended winglet this year 🙂

Hi Gary, You'd make an adorable Harry Potter! Especially since he's grown up so much these days! ;-) Can I have an interview now? (It was worth a shot!) Nicole Thornburg SWA dedicated applicant since 03/2007

Gary You seem to have a theme going on long hair, so how about Cher. The company I work with is looking into your company's success using ABM/ABC. Is there someone in your company I can speak to about the implmentation of ABM. Thx

If you take Nicole's suggestion to go as Hogwart's #1 student, you could become "Gary Potter"

Gary, we posted our own suggestion on Sky Talk, the Star-Telegram's airline blog. You can read it here: http://startelegram.typepad.com/sky_talk/2007/09/im-voting-for-p.html

Hi Gary or Boss... I like Nicole's idea. I think you would make a perfect Harry Potter! She deserves an interview for her adorable idea, don't ya think?

Either I'm the first one with this brilliant idea, or other such suggestions aren't being posted, so here goes... Kyla Ebbert. :D

I agree with Carl, go as Dog the Bounty Hunter. Maybe you can convince Colleen to dress as Beth, his lovely well endowed wife.

I don't know.... maybe dressed as a peanut? Just a thought.

I know my husband loves auditing for E&Y at SWA, especially on Halloween. I keep telling him that I would love to see Gary go as Marilyn Manson. He already has the whole "rock star " thing down, so this wouldjust take things a little bit farther. Whatever he chooses, Gary will do it in style and go way over the top!

Maybe you can dress up as an RSA, a CSA, an FA, an SWA peanut wrapper, or candy corn! I think we can dress up for Halloween at work, so I'm going to dress up as an FA! 🙂 I just can't wait until the day comes when I'm wearing those wings with my name on them!

You should fly as a Hooter waitress. Actually all flight attendants should be made to dress as Hooter waitresses. Shame on SWA for its handling of the Kyla Ebberts incident.

Well, whatever you do, don't wear a mini-skirt -- you might be asked to get off your own plane! Suggest you follow SWA's printed Passenger Dress Code...

Whatever you do, don't put on a revealing outfit and fly Southwest...you will never get there.

Southwest Airlines, any airlines, any public conveyance has the right and obligation to remove people from their vehicle that are inappropriately dressed. This was a pretty young lady, an exhibitionist, but none the less. Let's picture a 70 year old fat gut in a speedo or less. Nuff said?

Ughhhh....too bad certain posters have to carry their "shame on Southwest" views over to this thread. My suggestion is going as one of the "cavemen" from the new TV show and commercials. Then you could ride the people mover throughout the airport just like the guy in the commercials. *****Leah, how is your job search with SWA going? I try to keep up with your latest news on the blogs. I had my first group session last week for a CSA position. No word yet on a possible interview, but my fingers are crossed. Good luck to you!

Hey Jill and Leah - I got some great advice on the Myspace bulletin board for SWA. They said just "get your foot in the door" and then find your dream job within the company. I thought she was right on! I'm applying for anything finance/accounting/audit related. Good luck to you both! It'll happen when the time is right! Nicole

Nicole and Leah......thank you both for your thoughts. I will keep you posted on a possible one-on-one interview. The tough part will be waiting an entire year to apply once again if it's a no-go, but I understand their policy in that regard. Good luck to both of you...hopefully we'll all be employed by our favorite airline in the near future!!

Hi, Nicole & Jill! Thanks so much! 🙂 Yes, I definitely want to get my foot in the door, & I will. I agree, Jill, that it's hard to wait a year! Who knows, though; maybe the three of us will work together! 🙂

Mr. Fritz, I'm truly not trying to pick on you personally, just wanted to make a comment regarding something you wrote. On the Fly 2, Get 1 Free promotion, there are four steps to booking this deal. Step one states "Go to southwest.com and purchase two long-distance* roundtrip flights for yourself." That's not hidden in small print in any way. The asterisk regards the definition of a "long-distance flight."

Adventurer B
Bill, Frankly, I'm puzzled why you blame Southwest when you admit you ignored the terms and conditions of the promotion. No amount of griping changes that fact.

This is what I wore last Halloween and it got rave reviews at the Oak Lawn parade. I got a big box. I cut a hole out for the arms and head. It came down to just about my waist, so I could walk. I wrapped it in Christmas gift wrap. I printed out a big, " To and From" gift tag and glued one, along with a bow, on the front and back. Written on the tag was, To: WOMEN...... From: GOD Women came up to me to get photos taken with God's gift to women. So true.... So true......:-)

For Halloween, you should be the ultimate tourist! I had a last-minute costume like this one year and it was great...bright yellow socks with Teva's, a Disney World visor with blinking lights, pants with dancing hula girls and and flower print shirt that did not match at all. You could get different tourist type apparel from places that SWA flies and combine them into one heck of a costume!

I'm thinking Dame Edna Everage, Housewife Superstar. You've got the chin, the eyes, the smile - IT'S ALL THERE! All you need is the beauty mark and you're separated at birth. You'll have more fun than Gene Simmons going as himself! http://www.dame-edna.com/

Edward Scissorhands. I saw it at a party last year and was overly impressed. You always go over the top and I LUV it!

The Edward Scissorhands suggestion struck me as funny because if Gary did it, that would be his second Johnny Depp film character costume. That could be his theme going forward. In that vein, Willy Wonka would be good, too!

Mr. K. If you are married..... get someone talented to make a large nut cracker out of cardboard... paint it to look original. That could be your wife's costume. Then you could dress up as a Nut. So.... she is a nut cracker, you are a nut. This was done at a party we had and everyone was laughing hysterically.

Why not be Albus Dumbledore? He has the long hair since that seems to be a continuing thread in your costumes.
