What does Southwest Airlines give me the Freedom to do? Carole Adams

Southwest Airline gives me the Freedom to retire.  After spending 16 years as a stay-at-home mom, one year as a Speech Therapist in the public schools, and five years in a mom and pop business at no pay, I was way behind the curve on retirement.  I recently had five different advisors review my IRA accounts.  They were all amazed at what I have been able to save in 23 years of  systematic savings in Southwest's 401K,  ProfitSharing, and ESSP programs.  I have also maximized my productivity by flying extra trips-- something not all airlines allow their Flight Attendants to do.  On January 9, 2008, I can retire.  A cruise to Tahiti-- $4,000.00.  A well-made rocking chair--$800.00.  Peace of mind--priceless!

OH NOOOOOOOOOOO! Did Carole just use the "R" word??? Gasp!! Say it ain't so!! Well, Gary and Colleen, there go all of your great plans for Southwest in 2008 -- since now we find out that you might as well just close down the airline, sell the planes and go home. Could it possibly be Southwest without Carole?? Seriously, Carole, the many people who have flown on one of your flights have been blessed to have been around you, the Employees who have worked with you have been blessed to be your co-workers, and those of us who consider ourselves your friend have been especially blessed by knowing you. You are an outstanding example of all that is great about Southwest Airlines and I assure you that all of us will miss you. But, you surely deserve to loosen your seat belt, recline your seat all the way back and push the overhead button for someone else to wait on YOU now! As you retire, go with all of our very best wishes and please know that we LUV you! Your friend, Kim 🙂

Oh, Carole, please don't retire! I'd LUV to meet you & I want you to be one of my FAs! We need to go on strike, saying that you can't retire. I wish you the best, though. You deserve it. 🙂

Okay, I won't retire! I said I CAN retire - not I WILL retire. I have had a number of passengers say work as long as possible because once you stop moving it's harder to get up in the morning. Thank you Kim and Leah!

I agree with Kim. Say it ain't so!! Carole, are you REALLY thinking about retiring or just tossing it around in your head? You will be missed whenever the day comes! Love - James Malone MDW FA

Whew, Carole, You had us worried. What a difference "can" and "will" make. Blog Boy

Brian, I'm glad you pointed that out. Maybe that is why "can you give me a raise in my allowance?" never gave me the results I was looking for with my parents. If only I had realized I should have used "will" instead! Carole, The good news is that the paramedics showed up and got my heart restarted after I read your comment. Not being as intelligent and thorough as my pal Brian, I admit to a bit of "skimming" and thought you were saying you would be retiring. Whew, I'm glad you only said you can. Still, even the theoretical concept of a Southwest Airlines without its Carole is not a happy thought! I'll offer you a free bag of peanuts if you'll promise to forget the "R" word... Shhhhh, don't tell him I took it -- he suspects Paula. 🙂
