Wheels Up, Milwaukee

At Southwest, I have the pleasure of working on our Local Advertising Team.  We’re the ones responsible for taking our brand to each and every one of our more than 70 destinations across the country.  When I heard that our next big city initiative would be Milwaukee, I couldn’t contain my excitement!  Every city has its own special story, and I couldn’t wait to uncover Milwaukee’s.

Working with our Marketing Planning and Customer Insights Teams, as well as our ad agency, GSD&M, we compiled tons and tons of insight on the Milwaukee market.  After weeks and weeks of data, analysis and research galore, you know what the funny thing was?  The more we learned about Milwaukee, the more we saw…  Ourselves!

Southwest Airlines and Milwaukee sure have a lot in common; in fact, you could say we’re cut from the same cloth.  The people of Milwaukee take pride in a job well done and don’t need a lot of recognition.  They do what’s right because well… it’s what’s right.  And they’ve been called the “salt of the earth.”  Call me partial, but I would like to think those are all qualities that describe our Employees, too!  I think this is going to be a beautiful relationship, Milwaukee!

So, we put together an advertising campaign celebrating the people of Milwaukee, right along with our Employees that work there.  The ads are running now, and next time you go to the airport, you might recognize some of those smiling faces!  Yep, all of the Employees featured in the commercials hail from the MKE Station, and are working hard to bring YOU that one-of-a-kind Southwest Customer Service.  In fact, take a look at it for yourselves at the end of this post.

We are calling our effort “Wheels Up, Milwaukee,” and we hope to inspire this jewel of a city to think of us first for their air travel purchases.  After all, we are mighty proud of our 32 daily nonstop departures to 16 cities across our system.  Plus, we offer connecting service to an additional 46 cities all over the country, all on our big, comfy 737s.

Milwaukee, I hope you enjoy this advertising campaign as much as I enjoyed working on it.  It was a pleasure getting to know your awesome city on such a deep level.  By the way, anyone know where you can get cheese curds in Dallas?

Oh, and one more thing:

Wheels up, Milwaukee.
