We’re often asked if Campus Reach Interns are ever hired for full-time employment after their internship. Our answer: we love hiring Interns! The Campus Reach Program has built a talent acquisition pipeline here at Southwest, so you will see many of our former Interns roaming the hallways now as full-time Southwest Employees.

James Muniz interned in Central Publications back in fall 2017, and is now a Technical Writer in Central Publications. Read on to learn more about his journey.

Year/semester of internship: Fall 2017

Department/Team interned for: Central Publications

Department/Team and current job title: Central Publications/Technical Writer

Years at Southwest: Full-time at Southwest for five months

Favorite Southwest city: New Orleans

Most memorable Southwest moment/event: Halloween was a lot of fun. There was a ton of creativity in the costumes, performances, and decorations. I’m already planning my next costume.

First ever job: KFC—I ate all the extra chicken tenders.

Proudest Southwest moment: As Interns, we had an opportunity to clean up a park near Dallas Love Field that was scheduled to open to the public soon. Together, we picked up a ton of trash from the area. It felt good to represent Southwest outside of a regular work setting and to help the community.

Words to live by: Don’t ever compare yourself to others. Just be better than you were yesterday.

Reasons other people should intern at Southwest: There are so many People at Southwest Airlines who are willing to help you progress in your field or career.

Ultimate Travel Tip: I always forget something small. Make a packing list if you’re forgetful like me.
