Winter Storm Juno Operational Impact: Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, 8 A.M. CST Update

Southwest Airlines expects to resume normal operations in cities across the region affected by the Winter storm that hit the Northeast during the past few days. Flights resumed yesterday at our airports in Philadelphia and the Washington, DC area. Across New York and New England, operations are resuming this morning with the first scheduled inbound arrival. As of 7am CST, today Southwest Airlines had proactively canceled due to weather:

  • more than 130 flights systemwide on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015;
  • nearly 350 flights systemwide on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015;
  • and approximately 70 flights systemwide on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.

For context, Southwest Airlines had 3,410 flights scheduled systemwide Monday. Our main focus is on the Safety of our Customers and Employees, while making sure our flights operate safely to their destinations.

Operational planners at Southwest are coordinating with our Meteorologists to track the progress of the storm and evolve our Customer accommodation policies, which are already being updated at this link on Southwest.com.

As of 5pm CST, today Southwest Airlines has proactively canceled:

  • more than 130 flights systemwide on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015;
  • more than 300 flights systemwide on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015;
  • and nearly 50 flights systemwide on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.

For context, Southwest Airlines had 3,410 flights scheduled systemwide Monday. Our main focus is on the Safety of our Customers and Employees, while making sure our flights operate safely to their destinations.
