Yahtzee – Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards-Style!

As one of our Managers on the Marketing Brand Engagement Team, my job is to promote the Southwest brand and our products, as well as find unique and meaningful ways to interact with and engage our Customers.  With the recent launch of our All-New Rapid Rewards program in March, my Team was tasked with finding a way to promote the new program in a way that would be fun and appealing to both new and current Rapid Rewards Members.  Well, “Yahtzee!” – we’ve found a way to do both!

We are teaming up with the good folks over at Hasbro to introduce Rapid Rewards Yahtzee.  There are two main ways to play the game—via a game piece distributed by a Southwest Rapid Rewards Brand Ambassador in 11 select cities, or anyone can play online at www.southwest.com/yahtzee.  The concept for both ways to play the game is the same – simply roll the dice to see if your next vacation is just a roll away!

We’ll have Brand Ambassadors in the following cities handing out the game pieces: New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Bay area, and Phoenix.  If you live in one of these cities, or happen to be traveling through, look for us at an event or busy intersection and all you have to do is scratch off a silver bar to reveal five dice.  If the roll totals 25 points or more, you will win 5,000 Rapid Rewards Points!  Pretty easy, huh?  Our Brand Ambassadors will be hitting the streets beginning Monday, July 18, through the Monday after Labor Day (Sept. 5, 2011), who will be passing out game pieces and showing people how to play online.  This is where the “Engagement” part of my job comes in, and we’ll be in a wide variety of fun locations in the 11 cities throughout the promotion.  For example, look for us at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater if you live in Denver or you’re going to see a show, or look for us at the Manchester Elvis Festival or concerts at the Hatch Shell up in the Northeast, or you can find us at the Southwest Porch at Bryant Park in New York City.  Our goal is to talk to as many people as we can to introduce them to Rapid Rewards Yahtzee, and give them their chance at winning Points that they can use for their next getaway.  Look for us in your city!

If you don’t happen to live in one of the 11 cities listed above, don’t worry – we didn’t leave you out of the fun.  Anyone can play online by visiting www.southwest.com/yahtzee to sign up for Rapid Rewards and play the online version.  Once you sign up, simply roll the virtual dice to see if you come up with any one of several winning combinations (three of a kind, four of a kind, full house, small straight, large straight), or roll a “YAHTZEE,” five of a kind, and you will win one million Rapid Rewards Points!  Just imagine the places you could go and things you could do with a million Rapid Rewards Points!

So, if you’re in one of the select cities or hear a co-worker randomly yell, “Yahtzee – I’m going on vacation!” – you’ll know what all the fuss is about.  I hope you’ll join the fun and take your turn to see if your next vacation is just a roll away.

This looks like it would be fun if the link worked. 🙂

Got a message when I clicked on the Yahtzee link. “You do not have the permissions required to access this Web site. Please contact the Web site administrator.” Why? 🙂 Thanks!

The website where you said people can play, www.southwest.com/yahtzee, won't let people register.

I tried the hyperlink in your blog www.southwest.com/yahtzee and it did not take me to a game but a page for Microsoft webmail. I tried this several times and even opened in a new browser page and it still went to webmail.

The web site won't let me play because I don't have a code. Thought we were supposed to be able to play on line without having a card with a code on it. : (

Tried 4 times, never played, but it said "Wasn't that fun?" Guess I didn't win.

Excited about your promotion, but when I click on the button to "let 'em fly," the box disappears but nothing happens. No dice. Nothing. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

I didn't win, but the site worked for me. Anyway, I know that the new program has gotten some bad press, but I will say that there are some positives. Drink coupons come after 10 one-way trips instead of 16, for instance. The lower threshold for A-List makes it more likely I'll qualify. I'm looking forward to your integration of Airtran. We need more flights out of LGA for me to earn points with.

It doesn't work. When I click "let's roll", it just goes to another page with the header and background image.

Is there a schedule of locations for the events? I feel like I've missed something.

Is there a place where you may hint or say where you will be handing out game pieces in Denver next?
