"GREATEST GENERATION”

World War II may seem like ancient history to some of us, but, in fact it's living history. A number of the brave men and women who helped shape the way we live in this great country are still with us. If you ever get the chance to meet someone from what Tom Brokaw cites as "The Greatest Generation," those who fought for this country, please thank them. I have been blessed to meet a few of the young men from that generation, and when I met them, I said "Thank You." Thank you not only for fighting for our country but, also, for fighting for equal rights in our country. The young men to whom I'm referring are the world famous Tuskegee Airmen, the first group of African-American fighter pilots, who fought in WWII. Amazingly, the Tuskegee Airmen's 332nd fighter group never lost a bomber that they were escorting to enemy fighters. They were recently awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the largest group to ever receive this honor. The Tuskegee Airmen are madeup of pilots, mechanics, navigators and other support personnel who trained in Tuskegee, Alabama, during WWII. I will continue to spread the history of these heroes because that is my way of saying thank you. I believe it is because of them that I am able to say "I'm an Aircraft Mechanic for Southwest Airlines."
