Welcome to my corner at Southwest Headquarters! My name is Erin Brown and I am a Visual Communications Intern in the Communication & Outreach Department. My Team is outstanding, and I feel incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to learn from such talented designers. My Team is comprised of some of the most creative and artistic People in all of Southwest Airlines! On a regular basis, we work closely with nearly every Department. We listen to their ideas, projects, and visions, and we turn them into art. We work day in, day out to maintain the strength and integrity of the Southwest brand!

WIYC-Erin_FB_d1-07.pngAs a Designer, my desk space is mostly made of things that spark my creativity. Photography is one of my favorite hobbies, and this internship has given me plenty of opportunities to flex that creative muscle! Here is an overview of my desk:

I like to keep things clean and simple—clutter stumps my creativity. I have a few items that remind me of home and the people I love. I also have things to keep me organized, inspired, and energized (hence the coffee).

WIYC-Erin_FB_d1-02.pngDuring the past month and a half of my internship, I’ve seen so much of the country! I visited Chicago, New York City, Tampa, Las Vegas/The Grand Canyon, Washington D.C., and San Francisco. In every place that I’ve traveled, I’ve collected postcards to remind me of my adventures. Also, postcards only cost about 50 cents, so they’re good souvenirs on a budget. I plan to keep this collage going and add to my collection as I travel!

I also have a simple analog clock, a coffee mug for an afternoon pick-me-up, and an E (for Erin, of course).

WIYC-Erin_FB_d1-03.pngThe Southwest Airlines style guide is a resource I frequently use to refresh on the ins and outs of our brand. It’s also just a really cool book to look at! It allows me appreciate the years that went into crafting the unique brand of Southwest.

WIYC-Erin_FB_d1-04.pngCurrently, I am a junior at Texas A&M University (whoop!), and on April 13, I will be traveling to College Station, Texas to receive my long sought-after Aggie Ring! The Aggie Ring is a huge deal to all Aggies, because it symbolizes the accomplishment of 90+ hours of your degree. More importantly, it seals you into the Aggie family forever. Aggies wear their rings for life, and I am excitedly counting down the days until I get to proudly wear mine!

WIYC-Erin_FB_d1-05.pngOn my wall, I have another collage of photos from my New York City trip! My trip to NYC has been my absolute favorite, so far. I saw the Brooklyn Bridge, Washington Square Park, Times Square, The Empire State Building, and much more. I love looking at these photos and remembering the gift and privilege it is to have this job!

WIYC-Erin_FB_d1-06.pngLastly, I keep my beloved planner on my desk at all times. Since the Visual Communications Team works on so many different projects with varying clients, I absolutely have to keep all of my ducks in a row. I use my planner to make task lists every day, so nothing gets lost in the masses. It’s also a fun way for me to plan out my trips and manage my time effectively.
