2 separate flight segment booking

sverhart
New Arrival

We are flying to Hawaii from the East Coast. In order to do this we had to create two separate bookings, one from east coast to west coast and the other from the west coast to Hawaii. Is it possible when we check in for our first flight (east coast to west coast segment)  to have our bags checked in through to our final destination (Hawaii) so that we don't have to go to baggage claim and back through security during our two hour layover? Thanks!

I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but you'll enhance your chances if both flights are on the same confirmation number.

You would do that as a multicity booking. Also, booking it that way might be a few dollars cheaper than booking with two confirmation numbers.

If you have already booked your tickets you have 24 hours from the time you bought to cancel and get a full refund.

Edit add: remember that your first flight DOES NOT need to be all the way to the west coast. Since your trip  will involve two stops anyway, your first flight could be to a place like Denver. You just need to find a non stop westbound

Yes, you can check your bags through to your final destination across a multi booking trip.  This has become rather common when flying to/from Hawaii since, as you have discovered, getting to Hawaii from much of the US on Southwest requires multiple bookings.  When you arrive at the airport go to the full service check-in counter, not a kiosk, and request for your bags to be checked through to your final destination.  You may need to explain you have multiple reservations, but since this does seem to happening much more often the agent should have no problem doing it.  Just give yourself a little extra time for checking in.

You should be able to have the bags checked all the way however to do this you will need to go to the full service ticket counter so allow time for this and not all agents know how to do this so they might need to get help so be patient and have your other confirmation number handy.

It really sucks that Southwest does it like this. Why not allow me to book from OKC to Hawaii? Boo!!!

@bwallet OKC-HNL is available to book on some days in May and June and everyday in July and August.  Use the low fare calendar to see what days are available.  I suspect the addition of additional gateway cities in June helps you out.
