Carry On (what's allowed and what's not)

Has anyone tried to bring a portable steamer? It will be empty, and needs to be plugged in to be used. Does anyone know if I'm allowed to being it in my carry on since I don't need to get my bags checked?

TSA says yes, it's allowed in your carryon
