Early Bird

Here's a question, I'm A-List now which expires 12/31.  I'm flying 12/29/16 and return 1/2/17.  I cannot buy Early Bird now for the return because I'm A-List today.  Any suggestions for those who lose their status when traveling and want to purchase Early Bird because of this but are prohibited from doing so?

Here is on way.   If the flights were the same price now I would purchase 2 new one way tickets.

The outbound flight I would use my Rapid Rewards number and the other one I would not.
