Gate check jogging strollers.

Everything I'm reading says there isn't really a size limit for gate checking strollers. I have a standard jogging stroller. The wheels are too large to fit in my bag, but they easily slide off. If I remove the wheels and keep them in the same bag, would this be fine to gate check?

Curious as to why you would remove them. Seems easier and quicker to leave them on and gate check it collapsed, but in one piece.
