Preboarding perks

I am quite curious about the preboarding process. I read what is posted, and yet that does not seem to conform with the SWA flt 2057 that I just took this morning 7/14/17. On it, a VERY healthy and fit young man (last name Avila) who was standing near us while we were in line and whose boarding pass showed boarding position C10, was allowed to board before our 'A' group.  The gate attendant was meanwhile telling MULTIPLE people who wanted to board that they had to wait for their group. When I reached the attendant and questioned this his response was that Mr. Avila was preboarded. The young man was not with nor escorting anyone else. He ended up in 3F. From the interactions I witnessed with other SWA employees it would appear that he was either a friend of theirs, or was himself an employee. So my question is, does preboarding comply with the qualifications I see listed on this site, or not. If not, then please also allow me to board before 'A' groupers so that I do not have to wake up at the crack of dawn just to get a better check-in boarding position.
