Hi,
I am trying to check in on line within 24 hrs before boarding, I just got a response that I need to check in at the airport, what happens?

I've encountered the same message before and was able to get around it by selecting flight details within the app and then checking in from that screen. You could also be having an issue if the flight is international, there is an unaccompanied minor, or some other oddities that I cannot currently think of. Is there anything unusual about your reservation?

See if you have a boarding pass. I was confused once because I saw a message that said I needed to check-in at the airport even after I checked in.
