Young traveler ID requirements

Hello, my 13 year old son will be flying as a “young traveler”. Will he need any form of ID or age verification document (ie birth certificate)?

The site says birth certificate but I’ve never seen anyone from SWA or TSA ask for it…

would a copy of the birth certificate or a copy of his passport card suffice?

TSA does not require ID for any traveller younger than 18. Southwest would not be more restrictive than TSA.

Then only time an ID might be required is if someone younger than 18 looks to be 18 or older.

So if you want to be safe, copies of the documents you listed would be fine - but they probably won't be needed.
