Dumb question about in flight wifi and live tv

Sorry but I don't fly often so these two things are foreign to me.

1. Is the wifi on southwest planes free? if so do you have to register before to use it or will anyone in our group on the plane be able to select the wifi and use their phones/tablets?

2. For the live tv, does southwest give you ear phones or do you have to buy them? If we bring our own what type of earphone do we need (like the old iphone plug micro jack or the newer usb type plugs?)

Thanks

Do any airlines have this anymore?

United does, and I suspect that most large twins that ply the oceans do.

Solution

Wifi for internet access is not free and each person that wants to use it on a device needs to pay for it.  TV and movies are free, but you do need to bring your own device to watch.  There are no screens built into the seats on Southwest planes.  Make sure you download the Southwest app on any phone or tablet before the flight.

You can read more about inflight entertainment here:

Southwest operates their entertainment as a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and does not provide headphones. They are a low cost carrier. There are generally instructions in one of the folders in the seat back pocket. Basically you connect to the inflight wifi (no charge) unless you want to pay for internet, but the entertainment is fully supported and no need to pay for internet. Just connect and watch.

one correction to the above

Due to Covid, there are no paper anythings in the seat backs except for the emergency directions list. So there are no IFE / WiFi directions there.

Refer to the link in an earlier past to see what you need to do.

I keep forgetting that.

Here's a link with directions for anyone that needs them, you have to scroll down a bit.

*edit: this link is in the first reply

It's also in this entertainment guide (page 2):

Not a dumb question.  As stated, the internet is not free, wifi for music, TV, and Movies is.  No headphones provided, bring your own, I buy mine at the dollar store as I lose them often and buy 3 at a time.  You do have to download the SWA app to be able to connect to on-plane wifi as well.  Service is hit and miss depending on the weather and planes your on.
