Expiration of Child's Points

Question! My son's Rapid Rewards expire in April - unfortunately his next flight is not until June (it has been two years since his last Southwest flight). He is 17.

In order to help him begin establishing credit, I ordered a Southwest credit card in his name a short while ago and he has begun using it. Do his purchases enable him to avoid the expiration of his points in April in the same way that they would avoid the expiration for me, should I not fly Southwest for over two years?

Thank you!

Having a Chase Southwest credit card is one way to keep you Rapid Reward account active because points are going into your account each month.  Here are a few other way's to earn points if you do not have the credit card or don't fly much.   You can also earn points and keep you account active from doing free surveys @ E-rewards and E-miles.  Use can Southwest Rapid rewards shopping, Southwest dining program and all Southwest partners to earn points.

Your points from the credit card will post in you account 5-7 days after your due date.

Thanks for the reply, but perhaps I wasn't specific enough.

We have two Rapid Rewards accounts - one for myself, and one for my son. I fly semi-regularly...he does not. I have a Rapid Rewards credit card (which I use far too often!), so I gain points regularly. He hasn't flown in close to two years, and although we have a flight booked for June, I'm being informed that his points will expire in April because he hasn't flown for two years (by mid-April).

He's approaching the age of 18, so in order to help him establish credit, I recently gave him his own Rapid Rewards credit card. I was wondering if his use of that card would enable him to maintain his status as an active Rapid Rewards member...or if it simply benefits me, as he is sinply using my card, with his name on it?

Does that make sense? Thank you!

He will not earn the points... you will.  He would have to apply for the Chase Rapid Rewards account in his own name to earn points.  Here is a way he can earn points to keep his account active if he doe's not have the card or fly:  https://rapidrewardsshopping.southwest.com/  and
