I am A-List Preferred, with 40+ flights/year, and emailed SWA the other day re: the fact that I haven't received drink coupons since Covid...figured maybe they had my address wrong or...? This is what I received back from them:
First I've heard of this new policy...anybody else aware that this is the case?

I applaud the policy. There is too much alcohol being consumed anyway. If you want a drink, buy one at the airport. I object to paying tickets that include someone getting a free drink.

Never mind that those “free” drinks were “paid for” by those of us flying quite a bit. It literally costs you nothing.
Not to mention that it’s not your job to judge what’s “too much” alcohol anyways. And what exactly is helped by drinking at the airport???
Nonsensical.

Lol. Of course it’s “floridaguy” over here acting belligerent.
(Full disclosure: I’m from Florida, but I actually did grow a brain in utero.)
Drink coupons are an important perk for loyal SW A-Listers!

there’s always that one person who complains to complain. If alcohol is served at the airport what is the issue with drink coupons? Airports charge way more and alcohol on flights are $7. The flights themselves are already boring with nothing else to do. I travel every week and traveling just gets old in general.

“I object to buying tickets with alcohol included”. You sound like you’re ready to retire. Nobody likes a complainer who just complains. Drink coupons don’t need to be for everybody but for someone who’s spent hundreds of thousands traveling every week for years, yeah it would be a nice gesture from southwest. I practically live in this pot twice a week every week for two years, yeah I want some alcohol or coupon drinks. I’m just gonna assume you travel once or twice a year with that comment.

Dude. You don’t want to drink? Then use your coupon for a sports drink. Cost? First I travel three times a week. So it is a missed perk. If you buy business tickets they are at least double what web fares are. So you know not of what you speak. Putz

I guess none of you realize that many FAs don't bother to ask for drink payment anymore.
I'm at 8 straight flights with free drinks . My 9th one the FA asked and I gave a coupon.

Don't offer coupon unless asked, they may buy the first round if there's a significant delay, turbulence can keep the FA from coming back around, bring donuts for the crew, be friendly, ask if you can use your expired coupons...many ways to keep on going.
Be prepared to offer a coupon or pay in the end if needed, but overall the change hasn't affected me very much. I'm not a fan of it being quietly discontinued but in practice my flying habits are not really changed much. Maybe by the time I burn though the expired coupons in five years I'll feel differently. Cheers! 🥃

I, too, noticed this a little while back and was asking around about it - it sounds like Southwest is not sending out drink coupons at the present time, but in my optimism I hope it's only temporary and that they are shifting from physical coupons to digital coupons. It's 2023! Time to get "on board" with the times as the saying goes 😄
