Does anyone know if I use this card to pay my mortgage and energy bills does that count as a purchase?

yes it would, but can you really pay your mortgage with a credit card? I pay my utility bills with mine and they count.

There is no problem using your card and earning points. However, most companies that extend credit (such as mortgage lenders) will not allow you to charge your loan payments. It is using credit to pay for credit.
