So, if you want any type of credit in a hotel loyalty program, nights booked through Southwest won't count. Not for nights or points.

@bwallet Correct. That's why I prefer to book directly with the hotel in almost all circumstances. If it's truly a one off and won't be visiting the hotel brand again then I might use something like Southwest hotels. I prefer the loyalty over a few Southwest points.
