2 Travelers - Paid ticket and Reward ticket separate reservations

Why are paid tickets and tickets booked with points not combined on a single reservation?  This is problematic as I am A-List preferred, if I book my child’s ticket with points we don’t receive the A-list boarding benefit of A15-A30. SWA has made great strides in their A-list boarding policies but this is a huge miss.  Linked reservations 36 hours prior to departure should be able to board with an A-list Preferred member.

I would imagine the problem is that the payments system will not accept two different types of payment on one confirmation - just as it probably wouldn't accept a mix of euros and dollars.
