Add car rental to existing flight reservation

I have an existing SW flight reservation to which I want to add a car reservation. I can't figure out how to do that online.  I can go to the car rental link on southwest.com but it does not necessarily link my car reservation to my flight.  Does that matter?

As a matter of fact, there is no way to link a car (or hotel for that matter) reservation with a flight reservation.

All of the above are booked separately.

You're better off going directly through the rental agency anyways, especially if you sign up to join whatever free "membership" is offered by the rental agency.  Book air and car separately.

If you want to get RR points for the rental make sure you are a member of the car rental company's "club" and direct the points to SW, I usually get a 600 RR point bump on any car rental that way

Another idea is to use Costco, or an employer coupon code, if you have either.   Much lower rates than anything else I've found.   Unfortunately,  no bonus SWA points,  but those are a pittance.
