If you booked the original flight using points, you can only change it using points (if the new fare is more). If necessary, you can purchase additional points in order to make the change. Or, you can book a whole new itinerary using cash, then cancel the previously booked points one. If you need to only cancel the return flight, you'll need to call Southwest (you can't cancel half an itinerary online).
