If I have early bird checkin and I cancel my flight and put on hold to rebook at another time... When rebooking will I still have early bird checkin on the new flight itinerary?

If you cancel your flight you lose EBCI so don't do that. If you want to retain EBCI you will want to use the change function to modify your flight. The change does not have to be same cities or dates so in the end it's the same result AND you get to keep EBCI.

Thanks so much this is helpful. Unfortunately I am not sure when I would be travelling until next year so it seems I may loose it

Just change your flight to one of the same or less cost sometime in December as a way to hold onto EBCI. Then, when you have a schedule in mind you can change it again and use any travel funds you may gain after changing the flight (if new flight is cheaper than original flight).
