price fluctuations

I'm planning on flying in November and can't buy my tickets yet but the prices are fluctuating up and down but never lower than $89. Does anyone know why that is happening that far out?

Southwest changes it's prices based on  expected demand.

This type of thing happens all the time.

my rule of thumb is to NEVER but a ticket the day the scheduled extends as my experience is that initial pricing is normally high. I wait a week or more.

It hasn't extended yet.

Best time to book domestic flights is three weeks before departure as airlines want to fill the plane so prices will tend to be cheaper. This sometimes depends on the origin/destination, so maybe anywhere from 3-6 weeks before departure. This also lowers the risk of flight schedules changing.
