Clearing customs at MCO for International arrival w/connecting domestic flight

Will I have to get my own baggage to take to clear customs when I arrive at MCO, or will Southwest transfer the bags to the connecting flight?

Any time you clear customs in the US and have a connecting flight you must claim your baggage as part of going through customs, then recheck it.  Most airports have a separate baggage recheck counter in/near customs so you don't have to go all the way out to the main check-in area.
