7 things you should never do during an interview

Job interviews are very stressful. There is a lot of pressure, and you know that if the interview goes successfully, it can change your life for good. There is a lot of preparation to be done. No matter how anxious you feel, you have to be confident.

Job interview questions

If you aim to become a field engineer, then you need to be prepared for the questions that will be asked during the interview. You need to take into account the things you should do in an interview and the things you should never ask during an interview. Some of the questions raised in a job interview with field service engineer are the following:

• Your experience in this area?
• Your educational background?
• How you deal with stressful situations?
• Your terms with your past employers?
• Why you want this job?
• Why you think this job is right for you?
• Are you up for traveling to far-fetched areas?
• How good you are at problem-solving etc.?

Many different questions can be asked. The employer wants to look on you, and he is going to confuse you for that. Make sure you do not mess up.

Things you should never do during an interview

Whether you aim to pursue field engineering or something else, here are seven things you should never say or do during a job interview.

1 – Talking about the salary

Things you should never say in an interview include talking about the money you would be paid if you get the job. No matter how curious you are, you should lock this question away. You do not need to appear very desperate.

2 – Irrelevant or absurd questions

Other things you should never ask in an interview are inappropriate questions that are not related to the job. Another thing you should never ask in a job interview is asking the fundamental questions and appearing as if you have not done any research beforehand.

3 – Talking bad about your last job

Things you should never say in an interview also include talking about the negative aspects of your previous jobs. Even if you did not get along with that boss, just do not say it. Do not tell them if you thought it was very challenging or that the salary was not worth it.

4 – Being casual

Another thing you should never do in a job interview is dressing too informally. Your clothes, shoes, and accessories will leave an impression. In fact, the way you carry yourself also counts. Talking too casually is also among the things you should never say in a job interview. Using inappropriate language, slang or abusive words will cut down your chances of getting selected badly.

5 – Body language

Dull, nervous, or arrogant body language is one of the things you should never do in an interview. Do not slouch or bend too much. Interviewers notice every detail. Do not let your thoughts show. Similarly, talking in a proud, self-obsessed, or completely nervous way is also among the things you should not do in an interview.

6 – Not being prepared

Taking the interview too lightly is among the things you should not do in an interview. You should do your research beforehand and not say the things you are not required to say in a job interview. Not being prepared makes you look foolish, over-confident, or anxious.

7 – Showing off

Among the things you should never say or do during an interview is gloat. Do not brag about your qualification or how excellent you are at doing something, as these are the things you should never do in an interview.

These are the top things you should never say during a job interview whether you are going for a field engineer job or an interview related to another profession. Even if your interview is to be conducted via a phone call, the things you should never say in a phone interview are the same as the above.

Remember, moderation is the key to success. Too nervous or too over-confident is always bad. Appearing like you are very interested or totally uninterested is equally wrong. Similarly, asking too many questions and asking none at all is another wrong move.

Hello,

I'm in high school (it'll be my last year) and I need help with my internship application (2021 summer internship) and an interview. I'm having serious stuttering problems when it comes to answering questions, when I'm too nervous. What is the procedure of an internship interview at Southwest Airlines? Is it only via phone/Skype? How do I prepare? Thanks.

@Clarkede The best thing you can do on your side is go into the interview believing in yourself. Take every question slowly and think before you speak. Take deep breaths after you answer each question, and try to have fun with the process. You will do great!

Solid advise.  But have a logical answer prepared should the potential employer bring up the topic of salary.  PLEASE, don't say, I didn't know what the position paid.
